So sort of like the way leve allowances work? You get a few chances added each day, and they accumulate up to some (significantly higher) maximum? That pattern does give a lot more flexibility to choose whether you want to do a little each day or wait a while and then grind out a bunch at once.

The cap would probably need to be measured in terms of an allowance, then, a number which gets added to at the daily "reset" when you get more allowance but subtracted from whenever you earn the tomes, and you can't earn any more when it's zero. So for your 300/450 example, that first week when you earn 300, your allowance would drop from 450 to 150, and then the next week start at 600 (if another 450 got added to your existing 150).

But that assumes you're going to be doing the same thing every day. Some days people may have other plans and not be in game. Other days they may be playing but want to work on their crafting, or leveling an alt class, or farming MGP though Triple Triad games, and so on. The problem with dailies is that it punishes you for wanting to vary your routine and do other things. With an allowance type of system, whichever goal you're not working on today you can catch up with tomorrow or a few days from now.
