Can we please not make fun of the mentally disabled by using terms like "derp" and "durr"? It's really offensive to anyone who has mental disabilities or who has a friend or family member who has them. Then you don't know where those terms originated. And I KNOW that they're more intelligent than people think. That's part of my POINT. But my main point is that these terms originated in reference to making fun of those with mental disabilities and should not be used.

Except that an insult can be used to perpetuate stereotypes and other things harmful to a population. And yes, I have a right to speak for those with mental disabilities. Or at least the right as you define it. Though I think that everyone has the "right" to speak up against harmful acts against populations. And yes, making fun of the disabled by using these terms is harmful.

You do realize the term "derp" means "to do something really stupid, or beyond normality" right?

For example, if you are getting ready to eat your breakfast in the morning and accidentally pour the milk into the bowl before the cereal, you "derped." It's not that you do this ritually, you just got absent-minded for a split second and made a bad choice.

It has nothing to do with being mentally disabled. :/

I agree, this is pretty much what it means. I wonder if people around different parts of the world adapted a new meaning out of ignorance, might be why this person posted what he posted, its all good. I just wanted to clarify to folks when someone uses this in a playful manner- were not making fun of mentally challenged people.
