For all the fights in FFXIV so far, the best summon was either Garuda or Ifrit. Since Heavensward, Ifrit is almost the only one you use, Radiant Shield is too good to don't care about it.

The fights are straight forward, you are a tank, you tank, you are a healer, you heal, you are a DD, you do a lot of damages.
So I will repeat it again, you can have as much pets as you want, we'll only use the best one, because we are DD and our job is to do the more damages we can, I won't use a less powerful pet just for the sake of "diversity". And I don't really see in what our gameplay will change if we had more pets, the pet does almost everything by himself and you use his other skills by just clicking on it, the gameplay won't change at all.

That's why the pet glamour system is the best solution, you just see a graphic change so you can see other models while having the best pet.
