Dragoons and Blood of the Dragon

Just a quick thread post but in the drg quest line they never explicitly state why you can use the power of the dragon's blood even though it plays a important part in the main story even though dreadwyrm trance gets two different explanations why someone can harness the power.

So is it the soul crystal or something we will never know unless someone decides to ask and get a response from Koji or Yoshi-p in the future?

Strickly speaking Im not sure Dragoons literally harness Dragoon's blood. The source of Dragoon power seems to be harnessing draconic power but I think that power isn't race specific. After all the Eye responses to the WoL before they get a Soul Crystal.

I don't think it necessarily has to do with the draconic essense that exists in the people of Ishgard either. After all the origins of that come from people who were all Elezen and we know there are Hyur Dragoons.

It would be nice to have some clarification. To be honest there is still a huge amount about Dragons themselves we know very little about, in particular their origins.

As Hilde shows us, there is at least some amount of interbreeding between races in Ishgard. It was my understanding that all of the Dragoons of Ishgard do derive their ability to leap from the dragon's blood in them, and the WoL just manages it from the power of Hydaelyn.

While Hilde does show interracial breeding, its worth remembering that that interracial breeding was considered scandalous. Her mother wasn't thrown on to the streets because Hilde was a bastard, but because she was a mixed race bastard. That was the scandal.

As a result I suspect there is a degree of social stigma. Certainly we see nothing to suggest that such pairings are common.

As for the Dragoons:

the fact that Ishgard's populous at all had draconic essence in their veins was a secret enforced by the Holy See. Certainly the Dragoons themselves showed no knowledge of it. Estinien was shocked at the truth. Its also worth noting that the WoL when they gain new abilities literally have it say "the dragon within stirs" or some such. I'm not sure that directly has anything to do with Hydaelyn.

Regardless I don't think we have a definitive answer yet.

All the abilities in the dragoon storyline are thought up on the spot by the player. I am guessing they decided to dub it Blood of the Dragon because you get that ability after a certain part in the questline relating to said blood of dragons.

There's no explanation for why Paladin gets new abilities either. I'm not sure everything really needs lore justification.

Possibly, since Dragonsong Dive has what looks like a giant image of his head and looks like it utilizes BotD.

In some cases we draw the knowledge from the Soul Crystal. As we get more intune with it and our discipline memories and knowledge surface from it. At least that seems to be what the it says when the skill is acquired.

The text for the 52/54 abilities mentioned something about the souls of past Paladins in your Soul Crystal responding to Constaint's enthusiasm.

As for our new Dragoon abilities, we're likely tapping into our connection to the Eye and/or our newer one with Midgardsomr. I'm inclined to lean towards the latter, as both Blood of the Dragon, Geirskogul, and our new LB3, Dragonsong Dive, all have the a similar blue glow like the Midgardsomr boss himself did, as opposed to the red glow we generally see associated with Nidhogg and his Eye.

Litany does as well when you cast it. The 4th tier combo abilities are our only Heavensward skills that don't have the blue serpent particle effect.
