I remember about a year ago when I was in a group. The BLM mentioned he was going to parse us. The group quickly fell from 8 to 3 people lol...

I personally dislike parsers because I'm about survival. However, I now understand why people use them; I hear Heavensward content is mostly DPS checks. Many people say that parsing makes the person play their job better. I honestly think it does not.

The way I see it, when you throw a parser at someone, they feel a certain way in that they HAVE to dish out a lot of damage. The con to this is that they tend to ignore, forget, or not pay attention to mechanics. A person who is NOT under the influence of a parser may deal less damage but s/he is usually one less person that the healer need to worry about.

    *EDIT*
DC Universe has an in-gamer parser via the scoreboard. That thing makes all the wolves come out when there's fresh bait.

Then of course time for the ride down the tube. It's not about DPS it's about mechanics. Probably why we wipe.

Why not.. Make a cross server blacklist. Make a blacklist that works in the group. Make a mute function so people do not have to listen to being trashed.

I watched a video with Yoshi talking about parsers and saying "We are all adults here" well, NO we are not ALL adults. Even the adults aren't adults.
And if he didn't have a parser, he'd probably still trash talk. "Oh look at this dumb monk in Fist of Earth. We died because dps sucks, probably this monk running around and taking too much damage."

You can't stop stupid from being stupid. Parsers have nothing to do with this.

Depend on situation.. For normal mode, or the case like you, I don't think anybody should care about dps there. It is just silly, easy content.

On Fraust of Savage mode, it is simple main stream dps check. and you always end up at the situation where dps is not enough. If you don't know who is making lower dps than standard, then you don't know who to tell him to improve? Hell, actually even that person himself never realize that he is doing low dps also, because he simply never know his own number, and never compare his number with anybody!

(This problem would be solves if just like somebody here says that they should implement parse program that only allow owner to watch his own dps, so that there will be no dps who never know himself that he is doing so bad, and unable to improve because he doesn't realize.)

I don't need no stinkin' parser! If me and my team are standing, and the enemy isn't, our DPS is a-ok!

...Parsers do sound interesting. I'd like to measure my own DPS output as a WHM.

While I agree that ragging on ANYONE'S damage in faceroll content like A4 normal is idiotic,
I encounter tons of failure in Alex normal and the biggest identifiable cause of failure most of the time is lack of damage output. So no, I don't think being critical of the party's output is quite that idiotic.

I should have clarified - it's idiotic in the context of a group that is still clearing the fight with few, if any, incidents.

In the case of failure, I agree - it's important to look at causation, but that includes all factors, not just "someone's DPS is low".

tl;dr OP shouldn't be berated for doing "slightly" lower DPS while handling mechanics but should work on multi-tasking if they are doing "significantly" lower DPS and using "but mechanics!" as a blanket excuse.

You know the best people can both deal great dps and pull the mechanics correctly? One of the things making that possible is a proper parser to keep up with your progress.

During the adds, it's important not to get 4 stacks of the debuff, because it makes you explode. If every dps player picks up an add, it's fine. But if you kill your add quickly and see someone struggling with theirs, you can either go help him finish it directly, or then use a few ranged attacks if you're worried about those debuff stacks. The reason why the adds are being spread is that they do pbaoe that puts a stack of the said debuff on anyone it hits.

I don't mind you using parse, but heavy a little bit o sense.
Learning party on Ravana, one of the dragoons was new, first time on the boss, the poor guy died for same mechanics, it's learning and it's hard to get the time for mechanic just reading or seing a video, other DPS using parse said: "You DPS is to low, the WAR Have more DPS then you".
We restarted, and that time maybe by luck, we get till final liberation, died to Mechanics, the "Dive bombs", the same guy said for me, the healer, "Your DPS is to low you are doing half of the SCH dps", the SCH , a friend mine asked him to look on my EncHPS, that was 3x the encHPS from him. My Sch Friend was just Doing DPS and not healing because he have trust on me, Also the guy whit the parse always had the biggest vunerability stack.

Every tool is neither good nor bad itself. A tool in good hands can be used to accomplish extraordinary things. A tool in the wrong hands (Such as ignorant ones or malevolent ones) brings about abuse. Parsers are one such tool. A parser is both used for good and bad. It all depends on the user. Sadly, players such as Rashammel had an experience with an ignorant user. It happens. That shouldn't have us be too fearful to use such a useful construct.

I'm pretty sure OP and their opening post has far more capacity to make people stupid than a parser ever will.
