Even if a melee has to take balls, everyone should be able to position themselves so that they don't take splash while the soaker can still stay on the boss.

The arguments against meters gets more interesting... If they're doing stupid things with a parser, then they probably have the same problem without concerning other mechanics.

I just think we already have the damn things, no need to incorporate them into the base game.

It's an advanced tool. We don't *need* it. The same exact people that feel they need it will go get it. On a console? No problem. Get someone on pc to help with it.

The problem that people have with the current situation is that they are "illigal" which actually attracts more elitist jerks and dumbasses then allowing it straight up.

But when you look around, people are openly discussing the topic and their dps and none of it gets censored so SE is fine with it as long as you don't act like an ass.

It's how the parser interacts with the log files. From what I hear, SE has no way of knowing if they are being used, because they are not interacting with the log files in such a way to be detectable from the server end. So in short, they can never stop it. Furthermore, they themselves have posted server first clears with high end raiding FC's which clearly show the usage of parsers. SE understands their use as a tool and have commented they wanted to officially sanction 3rd party add-ons starting with Heavensward.

The most commonly used parser isn't a real-time dps meter. It parses a text file after combat is over. It's not even an add-on.

Add-on "parser" that folks are talking about is updated in real-time and serves very little purpose to most people. 20 bucks says 98% of folks with Recount or Skada installed have no idea how to read the graphs.

My point was more basing mistakes on the fact they added a single element to look at on the screen where you already need to multitask with your eyes. A person shouldn't be spending an encounter with their eyes glued to the meter in the first place, but that isn't the fault of having one, that's the fault of them not paying attention.

That is because most mmo's support addons in some form that does that.

So far they kept saying addons will come so it is just a matter of time before one is more widespread.

EQ2 supports addons but not meters like Skada or Recount, which are what people think of when you say "parser".

ACT, the same one used here, was originally developed for EQ2, and its the same one still used there.

You don't need to support addons *and* in game meters.

Wish people would stop referring to using a program that reads numbers out of a text file and shats them out in table format to criminal activity. You aren't going to jail over it, and they're not using Warden, so there's no way to tell its running. It doesn't modify game data or alter play. I think someone read "third party program" and failed to read the rest of the clause.

The point is that until they openly say they are fine with it, it's technically still against the rules which does hold some people back.
