It's there to help with progression. Until people from hardcore progression groups can get their hands on more 200/210 pieces they are most likely going to be using penta-melded crafted gear.

Yeah probably not actually, given the cost of getting the materials for a 180 piece is higher than that of getting a 200/210 piece- in time alone, not to mention gil and risk. It's baaaaad.

This really is at the core of the debate with the new crafted items.

Theoretically, the crafted items are supposed to be the more expensive but faster way to progress, and that intention was revealed by Yoshi-P not so long ago. But in reality, it's a completely different way to progress, it's more expensive and it takes longer.

If we look at the amount of "oops" in the crafting recipes, perhaps there's something really fishy with the crafting department in the dev team.

Like how they had to add certain gathering items to an NPC in Ishgard because the ingredients for a bloody level 52 crafting component was in a level 55+ unspoiled botany node.
Like how some of the most common Blue Scrip turn-ins for culinarians require Bullion Cubes, which cost blue scrips to buy.
Like how I need to craft a high-quality Titanium Lump Hammer for the level 58 blacksmith quest, and my reward for the quest is a normal-quality Titanium Lump Hammer.

Seriously someone just needs to be socked in the crotch like, repeatedly over the course of a couple of hours. It's like they didn't even care.
