History Repeating as Paladin

Hey all,
How do I do the History Repeating MSQ as a lvl 50 Paladin synced to lvl 46? Asking because I seem to struggle avoiding the Sweet Song water bubbles as yo are supposed to do and the Brass Earplugs give me a "invalid target" when attempting to use them.

It's been a long time since I did that quest but from what I remember I had very little trouble doing it as GLA/PLD. The only things I can suggest is... is your equipment up to date, are you using cross class abilities effectively (Stoneskin and Protect in particular are extremely useful), and have you been keeping up with your Job quests and thus perhaps try putting yourself into Shield Oath to boost your defense instead of Sword Oath (which only boosts the strength of autoattacks)? Unfortunately I can't really remember the specifics of that battle (as I did it way back in 2013) so any advice I give is more just in a general way I'm sorry.

One last thing to remember is if you fail the battle enough times in a row (usually twice) and immediately attempt it again, the Echo buff should be automatically applied that will greatly enhance your HP and strength for that fight, which should make things much easier.
