In a party their color coded red dps, blue tank, green healer, what more obviousness do you want?

Common sense has nothing to do with blue being a tank role.
Especially to those who have never played an RPG before.
As to the reason that the base classes aren't so obvious to their role is due to 1.0 not having job crystals at all from the start. You didn't have a defined role and you could spec into other roles via cross class. Some of the instructional videos even used gladiator as a DPS class. Oh that red lotus fire damage seemed so cool back then...

If someone has never played a rpg before then they should read about what they're getting into. When smart people find something new, they read up on it. SE has information on the website about which jobs are which and what they should to in a party.
Besides I'm really not understanding how any gamer doesn't know about the holy trinity. The holy trinity is even in shooters for people that mostly play those.
Oh I agree a little research goes a far distance.
But sadly, not everyone is going to do this, and their lack of reading into things will ensure they won't reach a point where someone is telling them to read into it. If the game told them with a bit more clarity as to what role is expected of them during character creation, it wouldn't piss off 3 people is Sastasha one day.

Yeah, as others have said it, there is only so much stupid SE needs to cater for. As paladins you have heavy armor, you are given a shield, you are given skills that increase enmity, you are given long rants about protecting your allies, you are represented in duty finder by a big blue shield icon and tank is even written there.
If after all this someone is still surprised that paladin is a tank, only doctors can help them.
Your point is moot, you don't even need roles in Sastasha.Oh I agree a little research goes a far distance.

Then sadly, that's their fault for not reading. They game could tell them in big red letters and those kind of people still wouldn't be able to figure it out. SE can't keep dumbing everything down for people that refuse to pay attention.Oh I agree a little research goes a far distance.

People need to learn, constantly holding their hand isn't helping.
