This red scrip system doesn't seem very casual-friendly..

As someone who only fishes and has no folklore books yet, it's very difficult to get the fish I need in the window I can, with the right weather, while also trying to do content on my DoW job with my FC. On the bright side, I have been able to make a lot of money selling Pripira pira or whatever they are.

You're not missing out on much with regards to those folklore books and red scrips. From my personal experience I've had much better luck with Thunderbolt Eels and Tiny Axolotl using Bladed Steel Jigs than I have had fighting to catch a large-enough Capelin. Catch rate on said Eels with Brute Leeches is pretty terrible in my experience, and next time the Axolotl are up as the collectable I'll be testing the leeches with them.

The problem I'm running into is with the price of these Jigs, given that I break around 3 or so for every 100 red scrips I get from fishing. If I'm buying the materials straight and having a friend craft the lures, it's 540k gil per week for my turn-ins. If I'm buying the Jigs straight, it's more to the tune of 1.48m.

That's not even getting into the requisite time required. Fortunately I've got plenty of time and gil, but what of the so-called casual players these scrips were designed for?
