    Question about 30 frames/second

With the option to set the game at 30fps in patch 1.19, will the game still overwork pc's with the setting or will ppl actually notice that their computers won't work as hard to play the game?

Don't get me wrong, 60fps looks really amazing in this game...but having to fight through the game's awful optimization in several places does get annoying after a while

By restricting the FPS to 30 your computer won't be at least trying to do more than 30 FPS, so yes it should improve the performance on some computers and stop them from getting so hot.

The only computers that may not see a difference will be the ones that struggle to hit 30 FPS in the first place.

That's comforting to know, but now that raises the question of whether or not palyers will be able to play 45-60fps w/o hassle after server fixes are done. Also, will PS3 release (when its time comes) be 60fps or capped at 30fps just so that the console can run it?

I'd imagine the 30 FPS thing will be a toggle, so you can switch it on or off, after all, those that paid a lot of money to play this game on max won't like suddenly having it limited.

The PS3 version will probably operate on 30 FPS if they try to push the graphics as high as they can. I very much doubt even a PS3 could run this with all the settings on full and still keep a smooth 60 FPS. However if they downgrade the graphics from maximum then they'll probably use 60 FPS

It'll probably feel a little like XI again if you turn on the cap. I could be wrong, but wasn't XI capped at a maximum of 29 FPS?

They had also mentioned doing a 15 FPS cap or something, but have no idea what they're talking about there.

I think someone in the Japanese forums suggested a 15 FPS cap and they decided to consider it.

Last I remember, human eyesight can't tell a difference in frame-rate from 60+ FPS, 30 FPS doesn't look too different.

But 15 FPS will just look jerky and bad. If I had to turn that on just to play FFXIV I'd quit and just play Doom till I upgraded my computer XD

Gah! Now I've learned another one of those facts that I'll always be able to remember even though it's very rarely usefull to know >.<

Did you know Coca Cola was originally green?

Don't quote me on this but I have a feeling that the console version of XIV will probably run at 30FPS at 1280x720 with either 2xMLAA or no FSAA. That's just my gut feeling. Who knows, the game engine might actually run better/be more optimized for the PS3 though.

This happens quite often. Since Crystal Tools was optimized for the PS3 to begin with, it has a better chance of running the game on decent specs and still have the ability to maintain a good framerate compared to the PC. This goes along with a lot of other games that were ported over to the PC from consoles; they seem to have a higher system requirement. Again, this is also an issue that still somewhat plagues XI.
