Devs: Can we have a Fan-fiction section?

I'm sure a lot of us players would love it if we had a fan-fiction section of the forum. I mean, even though us players go through the same storylines in FFXIV like everyone else, I know a lot of people would love to write fan-fictions based on what they have done (like role-playing). OR, if we had a fan-fiction section, we could write Final Fantasy stories with our own original characters in them (not our in-game characters, but characters we made up).

What does everyone else think? I think it would invigorate the forums a lot more. Heck, even the devs could contact us and ask us about publicizing our stories if they are really good.

Another thing is if we could have a fan-art section, too.

I love fan fiction from all sorts of fandoms! The problem with putting it on official forums is a lot of the stuff I read might be deemed *mature content* and not allowable on the forums. There's plenty of good sites out there already, have you found any good places with fiction based on this game?

Many forums have some kind of "Fanworks" section that includes fanfic, fanart, or the like. I think it's a good idea. It's another sect of discussion that's clearly marked for those who aren't interested in it and a beacon for the nerds who are (like the Lore forums). I'm sure some people cringe at the very word "fanfiction"; I did too when I was younger, but most of everything is garbage and the ratio here isn't really any different. It's just funnier when it's bad and *also* features familiar faces/settings. But if people want to use the game as a springboard for creativity then I think it'd be cool to see an official place for that, though there would need to be guidelines for such a place, mostly with regards to content.

I'd love a fanfiction section. I had a blast making League of Legends fanfiction, back when they actually allowed it.

EDIT: I don't think SE likes the idea of fanfiction, from what I've seen. They're more interested in artwork. Us writers can go jump off Witchdrop, I guess. 'Cuz anybody can put words on a page, right?!

Something about the thread not adhering to the forum rules. Even though I, you know, made it clear as day that it was a fan-fiction thread, so it wasn't misleading. And yet I looked up and down page one the day my fan-fiction thread was deleted, and saw numerous fan-art things going.

Got an email detailing the removal of the thread, and a nice little warning on my record. Maybe next time I'll just pencil something up on my Wacom so nobody'll report the thread.

I wouldn't go so far as to say SE doesn't like fanfiction, considering the millions of fic out there for the various entries in the Final Fantasy series and their other properties? But it might not be the sort of thing they wanted in the general forum section.

A 'fanworks' section would be a really nice addition to the forums, though, even if, like Orspeth, I have my doubts that the sort I'd be interested in reading or writing would be welcome on an official site. Even places that are okay with a little mature content tend to get cranky over even light M/M.

I'll never understand that. I've seen that, myself. M/M gets frowned on, yet F/F....

I'll admit, I kind of like both M/M and F/F -- only if they're a scenario that's not been done to death, which tends to be 90% of those kinds of fics. Not that they're not good, they just don't pique my interest. Other than that, I try to avoid ship-fics.
