If you liked your privacy then you wouldn't post on forums. Moderators can see your IP addresses, they know where you live, they can see your profile even if the forum has it set to private, etc... the point of the Lodestone is to act as a reference for other players. If you want to join a LS they may want proof of your "qualifications" with the Lodestone they can do that. They can see if you have a level 50 class with the important sub classes leveled that you would need abilities from to maximize your effectiveness in battle, they can see if you have completed certain content. They can see how active you are by payign attention to your history entries...
It does more good then harm. If you dont like your information being out there then don't play. As far as /anon in game is concerned, it's pointless. If you don't like being bothered use chatfilters, /blist, ignore people, whatever. Whenever I saw a /anon in FFXI it made me wonder what they were trying to hide (like an underleveled subjob or whatever) /anon is just shady, and I don't trust people who use it or want it.
blacklist is such an ultimate move though (I RARELY used it in XI because I never knew it down the line that person was doing an event/story/etc that I really wanted to get done). So me personally blacklist is a waste of time (unless its the extreme where you've contacted a GM and etc over it).
Regardless as it stands now, /anon is pointless (literally pointless it has no value to be in the game right now) with a search function it definitely has a purpose, a good thing to point out is the crafting classes (since we'd be able to search for them) in order to sell something in the wards the gear must be @100% durability, which only a crafter can do, say I don't have a craft to a certain level so I do a search for level 40-50 weavers, I'd just go down the list asking for a repair, now that that instance times a hundred (because I'm sure I'm not the only one that will do it).
If you want to craft in piece you will HAVE to have /anon, same goes for combat classes as well, people are going to need healers/tanks more than anything so they will get random invites, /anon will stop that from happening. Maybe it didn't happen a lot for you (hypothetical you) in XI or XYZ MMO but it does happen quite frequently, ask any bards from XI lol.
PlayerA: "hahah you're such a noob your so low level, you must have a life and have no time to play, probably busy with your gf and work, rl sucks lol you loser!"
PlayerB: "Yep, im the loser..."
The only sarcastic harrassment i can think of. The realistic one would be:
PlayerB: "Trust me this skill works you can do this and the mob does that"
PlayerA: "Stfu you dont even have rank 50 x or even a rank 50 at all so your opinion is incorrect".
It happens on the forums all the time "You're too low level to understand the game so you think its good but its not, you will soon find out when your high level".
i personally dont have a reason to be anon, but if others want it, fine by me, i just hope they dont lock it on lodestone, considering i run a website that exposes your levelling rates in the finest detail there is lol
Depending on how it's implemented I think it might do more harm than good.
That's just how I feel though OP, I'm sorry if we disagree.
XI - Darkshade - ShivaXIV - Shade Highwind - Figaro
<sarcasm>Yes, allow me to harm you by not allowing you to see my level.</sarcasm>
You people are absolutely ludicrous. There's no harm either way. If a person wants their information to be private no one should feel the need to question it. There's no reason a player should not be able to keep this information from someone if they so choose. I personally wouldn't hide it and I use the lodestone to look people up all the time but if someone felt they should be able to block this access I'd be all for it.
If they want anon fine. If you dont then don't use it. Personally I like the fact that you can check someone and they dont know you are doing that. In ffxi I only checked someone when I liked what I saw ie nice gear I wonder what its called or how to obtain it. Without bothering them with questions I could look up myself. Also thanks for clearing up something for me about behest. Was wondering why there were lvl 39 mobs on my behest that I was doing at rank 23 lancer at camp horizon lol. Good to know.

You do know anyone can search you on lodestone and see everything about your character right?
THIS is what the OP meant he wishes to 'hide' not his 'in game, currently dressed class' but his Lodestone profile.
I'm not sure what his reasons are but this is what he meant, he said so several posts up. I can *maybe* see his point...you can tell how 'active' someone is by reading their lodestone histories. Also, you can see who friends them etc. This is in addition to what classes you have at what ranks and your stats etc.
I can sorta see why someone might not like this... BUT if you never write in your blog, all they can see is basically who you are in game...and really, your linkshell should know that anyway. It's not like it's 'actual' personal information they have access to.
Oh, I only read the OP and i missed where they said profile. At a quick glance it just looks like an /anon in game request. If it was in game /anon then I find that pointless since you can just look at the character and be able to tell what they are.THIS is what the OP meant he wishes to 'hide' not his 'in game, currently dressed class' but his Lodestone profile.

I really don't see the issue about people being able to see your profile unless you hang out with douche bag people who make fun of your for dumb stuff like not having something leveled. If that is the case you need new friends or a LS. If it an issue on people wanting you to play a certain class for an event and you wanting to hide it from them that you have it leveled then shame on you. If you join a LS for event related reasons and you don't want to come on a class they need to make the event go smoothly then you don't need to be in a LS like that.
In the end you have control over yourself. No need to hide yourself from people. Be proud of who you are!
