    The Dreaming Dragon

So what is that petrified dragon's story? Could it have been the remains of Ratatoskr?

It could be Ratatoskr, but considering the proximity to Ishgard I think it's more likely to be another high-ranking lesser dragon like Vishap. Still not really sure why he(?) was so much larger than even the First Brood dragons, but I guess size really isn't all that matters.

The answer to that lies in the Blue Dragon card. The card explains that dragons go through various individual mutations throughout their life, making many of them unique. This mutation can take many forms, such as Vishap's size.

Nope, sightseeing log implies that she was killed in Tharl Oom Khash, which was where she and her brood used to live.

From memory after doing some of the many sidequest in that area. It's said that the Dreaming Dragon was sealed by a group of dragon hunters/Ishgardians. It was lured in that area, the mages bound it there and from then on ashes rained on it and created that thing we see now

Yeah, they said it was put to sleep with magic, then the ashes from its rampage covered it, then ice froze over that, but legend holds that it is still alive within that ice, but sleeping.

I was under the impression it was dead, because of a fate saying that monsters were attracted to the smell of rot from melting ice

It very well may be, or some of its flesh may have become necrotic. Puddings are voidsent formed from reanimated blobs of flesh, so it would make sense what with the Gelatos around that area.

Doesn't have to be the Dreaming Dragon they're smelling either. There's a massive battlefield southwest of Dusk Vigil that's littered with frozen corpses.

yes. dragons, especially dragons of that size are incredibly resilient. the puddings are more likely taking flesh from the corpses littering coerthas.
