The weapon might be less, but that's not the point of this thread. Poetics, you could easily wear your one healer set on WHM and SCH, the caster set on SMN and BLM and the tank set on PLD and WAR.

These sets are all specific to one job, so no, they are really not less to obtain.

Again, you have multiple options to getting better gear for alternate jobs. Even more when 3.1 hits. Its understandable to an extent if you are heavy on BiS, but even then you are going between two gear sets to make that happen.
