I very much understand the potential for abuse, that's why I said:
The mechanic itself would never be overpowered, the execution of it could be but that's why I left out numbers. As an example, if the effect shattered early when a player has prevented 100% of their max health in damage and then took 1000% of the damage prevented this way over 6 seconds the effect would be useless and you couldn't actually use it to cheese anything at all.

I think it's an interesting idea to have the channeled cast create a persistent effect on the people hit by it. It certainly serves to make the channel feel less punishing.The idea is pretty straight forward. It would still be a channeled effect, but it would only need to be maintained long enough for party members to enter and receive the buff effect. At that point it can be cancelled, but the buff would remain on affected party members for its full duration. Effect duration subject to change.
Personally I feel the cards on their own are random enough as it is. I like that aspect of AST but I'd like to pile on some more reliable tools in addition to that.
This would also be sweet. I think Collective Unconscious works better as a name for this effect though!
