I have a suggestion for you, yeah?

Since WAR feels so much better than PLD at the moment, Why not just play WAR? If one day SE decides to buff PLD, which I do not see happening any time in the foreseeable future, you can pick it up again.

Already ahead of you (check my load stone?). I leveled all the tanks to 60 and have gotten them all their ravana weapons and will be taking War into Savage. That said, I -really wanted- to be a Paladin. I like the idea of the class, i like the theory behind it--but not the reality.


The reality is really just kinda sad.
Enmity Gen? Worst of the three
Aoe Damage? Laughable
Single Target? Worst of the three
Utility? Quite high but realistically, if your tanking, you don't have much breathing room. Clemency nicely underlines this as being an OT action. I didnt pick Paladin to OT (especially given their damage).
Ability to 'Tank' in Offensive Stance: The worst of the bunch as the extra damage of sword oath is never mulitplied against extra enmity attack modifiers, which the 'stance' buffs of Wars and Darks both enjoy.
Cooldowns? The break out items are made largely irrelevant by the content. When attacks you want to not kill you cannot be blocked, the shield/shelltron/bulwark are doing next to nothing for you (maybe helping on some autos if the boss happens to do that like in A1, but this is not the scary damage your healers fear).

I honestly think you are looking at a glass half empty here. Paladin has its upsides and is fine where it is right now despite those negatives you mention (I also believe they are exaggerated.... aside of the enmity and AoE damage lol).

If PLD had glaring problems it wouldn't be a static main tank in all the world first groups out there right now.

Don't get this the wrong way, but I honestly think paladins are princesses that worry about their #1 spot the whole time. You have to accept that the other tanks HAVE to outshine you at something.

There was an outcry about WAR buffs in 2.1 because PLDs feared WARs would take their spot as MTs. Yet, PLD was (still is) the default MT despite the math proving WAR MT, PLD OT effectiveness.

All three tanks are VERY viable and unless a tank gets excluded (meaning if you ONLY have 1 job leveled and then get refused to do content because you're that job) there is no reason to cry about it.

Healers need to heal other people you know. If they are busy healing someone else you can help them. I have used Clemency various times to heal others and myself preventing deaths in the group.

Are you serious right now? Wow...

Not only enough to kill relevant content...gotta do it first day...cause you know, noone ever levels their tank class second. Or has to wait for their FC to get going.

Or simply doesn't want to try a certain fight for a bit...

The crux of the matter is, when it comes to whether classes are balanced, if you MUST take a certain job over the others or feel like "We should have brought that job along instead", then it's not balanced.

In that case lets make all jobs into one job and name it onion Knight.

Really though, no matter the situation as long as there is differences between the jobs there is always going to be a "best" and a "worse". Just because people feel they should have brought another job along, doesn't make it unbalanced.

PLD does need some upgrades to either it's supportive role or DPS though. Leaning towards the DPS stance though because in all situations a good healer will make PLD's healing abilities obsolete since every set-up is suppose to be able to do everything.

I don't know if it has been mentioned yet but spells get interrupted after a certain damage threshold is passed.

So, you can pop Rampart / Foresight / Sentinel (or Hallowed Ground) to reduce incoming damage below the threshold and allow yourself to cast uninterrupted.

The obvious issues with this is when the damage is so high (Alexander Savage) that defensive cooldowns still don't prevent interruption. In regular Alexander + EX Primals it works pretty well, though.

It's a rather flawed class atm. Dps is low, Enmity is low, a clunky heal that best works as an ot (it's to slow and negates your main class advantage as a tank of that shield). The combos amd potency of paladins has to be reviewed if so many fights will have magical busters which largely places paladins behind every tank in mitigation while still suffering from their intended weakness. Paladins have the worst time offensive tanking as well out of all three tanks since sword oath does nothing to enhance Enmity generators.

Sword Oath should increase all potency by 25%
On average, it would add around 50 potency to our weapon skills, so it wouldn't change that much from the actual potency boost.

But it would be cumulative with our enmity multiplier AND worked with Clemency

On the long run, however, I don't think our DPS is low, since we're the only tank who can spam its best combos without spending any additionnal ressource.
