Well, let's be real here. The only possible way they could make everyone happy is making character creation not suck so much in the first place. As long as character creation stays the way it is, some demographic or other is going to be left out every single time they add a new race. To actually please most people, the height slider range would need to be huge, they would need a muscle slider and a general build/weight slider (something we badly need for all characters), more than a mere four/five face options per race, and the ability to change every single body feature on at least some level (especially fur and scales if they are present).
And such a revamp happening is about as likely as the game getting A Realm Reborn Reborn or something similarly outrageous. So, in the end, we'll likely forever be at odds with what the Japanese demographic wants from new playable races.
The most I could see would be them making a race where the two subraces are completely different, even moreso than the Highlander vs Midlander split, and that would effectively be the same thing as creating TWO races at the same time. Something like this (note: small loincloth warning), for example. And, quite frankly, we're more likely to see a gender split in that fashion like the Au Ra than we are to see two subraces executed like that.
That being said, I'd sure love to see them try! Would certainly put a lot of my complaints to bed. I get the feeling, however, that even if they did such a thing, the race we'd get is extremely likely to be another 'human-with-add-ons' type of thing, and thus disappointment reigns once again...
Regarding this, I'd rather just have them let us pick from all the emotes without regard for race- or gender-locking. It's extremely constricting to only be able to use emotes of your particular race & gender, and often clashes with a given character's personality (not to mention stereotyping an entire race). Pretty much all the Miqo'te female emotes are waaay too girly-looking for my character, for example.
