It's also really sad that when an AST does get the opportunity to replace a SCH, it's still basically required to stay under Diurnal and act as a second WHM. It's almost like using WHM/WHM* (*took an arrow to the knee) as the composition.

While changes may be needed, I would like this topic to stay on using the current tools to complete the highest level content. For example these are the tools that are not working for me or this is how and why I could clear a floor with AST as one of the two healers. I also like the pics of people clearing A1S .

Something else to keep in mind as well; all but the last turn in each Coil was mostly about gear level and not exactly player skill. The last turn was always the one where people hit walls with DPSchecks and healing while conserving mana and having to execute mechanics.

Did you read the conversation? The point is to get information on ASTs clearing AS floors. We already have a group the has cleared A1S with AST/WHM. These early clear groups are the top of the top in skill and devotion and are where most of the balance should stem from. If groups can clear content with AST and like what it brings then maybe AST is in a better place then people think (since many groups will not bring AST period even at top level of skill). This way we can learn from each other and cheer on our AST buddies .

Not to be too much of a pessimist but 'can' isn't necessarily the best benchmark. If you 'can' clear something using an odd setup (be that DPS, tanks, or heals), but it costs you a few more days of wipes vs a more optimal setup... is it really worth it?

And, just out of curiosity, have any AST/SCH compositions cleared it? If not... that suggests AST is relying heavily on the strength of the WHM, similar to DPS-heavy scholars.

If you're curious enough to look through old threads I tried to do a fair writeup but I'll give a quick tl;dr version of my own thoughts (both 60 AST and 60 WHM).

Essentially, AST is a high mobility, sustaining healer with little burst and poor MP management (considerably worse than WHM-- at sustaining 250 potency on the tank, WHM recovers MP twice as fast).

The tradeoff for its drawbacks are the buffs. So ultimately groups doing hard content have to ask: Are AST's drawbacks worth its strengths (buffs and mobility)? Right now, I think the answer for many groups is 'no'. I also expect upwards gear levels will ease the drawbacks significantly, but that doesn't help when it comes to progression.

I'll also add that I don't want to see AST become a copy of WHM or SCH, however. Address the MP issues so AST can at least sustain reliably, then perhaps tweak cards or other buffs until we find a nice sweetspot...

FC mate AST that got to 2% last night healed with sch. So it is doable but... i think it takes a bit of coordination and a lot of skill.. their sch is... crazy good. and the AST is good too. So really, it's possible, but only if you have the skill and coordination.
