"Optional" is really not optional at all, so I wonder why they included the auto-allocation system.
The community will dictate how stats will be distributed among classes and jobs, so we'll all be using the "optional" system anyway.

I imagine the reasoning is not so much for the communities min/maxers, but for the casual players. Those who don't really care about that kinda stuff and like to RP, just play with no whims, etc. This makes it easy for them to have a feasible class without having to look deep into stat allocation.
