The question that I think really needs to be addressed is "What is the end goal of crafting??" We have a well tuned crafting system that requires the user to pay attention to stats, resource uses, conditions, etc.... and yet it feels off. In 2.X SE had a formula for raiding gear. You could obtain i90/i110/i130 gear from raids and crafters could craft i70/i90/i110 gear which could be pentamelded to equivalently be the stepping stone for raiding. However they broke that system by not only gating it behind the red scrips but now the gap is 30 ilvls which changes the dynamic. As someone who enjoys this games crafting I am not asking for crafted gear to be the best, I just want crafted gear to be something other than glamour. Right now it feels like crafting is for houses/airships and glamour and if thats the case just give us a random percent chance of completing the craft with no thought required. Because what is the point of HQ aside from our own crafted gear. *Sigh*

Struggling to find fault with the OP. The current limits do seem to gate high level crafting to the point of making it unworkable.

I'm not giving up though. If it's really that bad then there will have to be adjustment in due course.

I think the aim must be to have it so that people who aren't interested in being the top level crafter but can still obtain scrips, criculate their materials for use by people who want to spend their own scrips. It's seems quite a brutal shift from any of the ways we've had it before.

LOL I took one look at the mats required for all the new stuff added today and said to myself, "Yep. Not making that stuff...like...ever."

I am asking for crafted gear to be the best. Not every piece, mind, but itemization in 2.X was tomes/raid and crafting back a bit behind a materia wall. Itemization was also pretty awful in 2.x

It just gets worse when there are even fewer viable alternatives. Crafted gear is an expensive pain in the ass. If it's not best in slot, it's pretty useless. Not every recipe has to be useful, but when you make crafting much more annoying to obtain on top of it being worse, what's the point of it even being there? Upset that people took down your content early behind crafted gear? How about you just don't release that gear right away.

Itemization was and still is a problem in this game and they're just making it *worse*.

Funny how the "solution" to requiring everyone to be an omni-crafter is to make it take as much time to gear one crafter at 60 as it took to gear all 8 at 50. Now you can put in omni-crafter levels of work for less than 10% the benefit!

If crafting is going to be this much of a brutal grind, there needs to be a point beyond glamour. If crafting is going to focus primarily on glamour and fluff items, then it needs to not be such a hardcore, brutal grind. Either way is fine, but the effort should match the reward.

Having not looked over all of the current gear options for DoW/M classes i'm not sure what is and is not useful 100% but ...

I currently feel like "whats the point of me even gearing up one job?"

I have always been a very self sufficient person, i HAVE to make my own gear, i need that little signature at the bottom but considering how easy it currently is to upgrade gear, be it via Law, upgraded Law, Esoterics and even with it's god awful loot system Alex, why would i go through so much pain and hardship to acquire something that is not event remotely and upgrade?.

When 2.00 was out i distinctly remember that Gryphonskin gear (specifically accessories) was a very viable gear option, melded up with extra VIT. In 2.55 some melded accessory could be on a par with a T13 piece. Again considering how easy it is to upgrade via Alex specifically for acc i can't think of a reason why i would even bother gearing my Goldsmith for the current system.

I'm sure we will have more to come but as a first batch this is pretty poor.

I still don't understand why they don't ditch the materia system and let crafted gear upgrade via similar system as tome gear. Initial ilvl stays 20 lvls below tome gear and the cost of upgrading it will be whatever the equivalent tome slot would be (ex: i180 chest gets upgraded to i200 from 825 esos). For the sake of balance the HQ piece could be slightly less than 825 to upgrade or the NQ piece could be slightly more than 825 so that NQs aren't garbage but getting HQ has value. This type of system would also give crafted weapons value because damage would increase while also making accessories less broken because you can't double dip in primary stats, which was idiotic design since 2.0.

Crafting becomes useful and DoW/DoM get another stat line to itemize with at the same time.

Well, because the whole Materia thing is deeply embedded in FF lore, and was one of the most favorite things we were able to do so long ago. Granted, it's morphed into something completely different (boy, would I love a materia system like we had in FF7...), but that's just too OP for an MMO, I guess.
