Yeah, I really need to stop being lazy and level my alt to get around the cap. I don't expect it to change anytime soon with regards to the gear acquisition because as you said it's how it's been, but I hope in the future they can continue to iterate on the system they created with Law. I really like the way the Law gear is laid out, and I'm happy to have that to work with in the meantime at the very least.
What your asking for would make every piece of content that is not named Neverreap or Fractal Continuum even more pointless than it already is. I vote no. The shortage of esoteric gear will encourage people to do Ex primals or alexander normal, and it should be that way. Maybe even Alexander savage (let's be honest tho, this is ffxiv and aint nobody got time fo dat!!!)

OP. It is because you have pets and families to look after.

Personally I wish we could be rid of this end game grind mouse wheel so we can go enjoy other parts of the freaking game. I can't even get the time to do the remaining detective quests and moogle deliveries without being forced into the "oh great, while I do this, I could be earning end game seals to keep up with the community." Do the developers even understand they don't need to put all this grind into end game? They could just as easily make end game have glamours or special dyes while leaving functional armor accessible to people without some kind of portable time space bending machine.
It's like we are all playing Final Fantasy Grind Quest thanks to Alexander + this new AF2 stuff.

Gearing up does nothat take much game time if you don't care to be bis soon as possible. I did not do hunts or 50 runs pet a1-4 for just a 10 I level upgrade. You can do your daily and stay relevant gear wise just 3 to 4 hours a week. It's all how you spend your time.

"But I want it NoW! ='("

I do agree that the game in general needs to be more friendly toward those who play multiple (or all) jobs on one character, since that's supposed to be a feature FFXIV has over other MMOs. As it is now, you're actually better of playing more than one character so they have a separate cap, and it would be nice to have them find a system that fixes this to allow FFXIV to play to its unique strengths.
That said, simply having a separate cap for each job comes with its own set of problems. The most obvious being that you would be unable to gear up in advance, or even build tomestones in advance of something. Let's say you have job A at 60 and job B at 58. With the current system you can continue to cap tomestones using job A, then spend them on items for job B, but if the caps were separate you would not be able to use job A for this, even if it was completely geared.
Another, similar issue would be that many people who play multiple jobs, especially those who play all jobs, are smart enough to do their daily roulettes and other farming as a tank or healer for faster queues. In turn this benefits each data center as a whole, because it means more parties forming faster. If those same people had to queue up as other jobs to get tomestones for those jobs specifically, queue times for damage dealers would increase as a result.
Again, I do think more should be done to utilize our unique all-jobs-on-one-character deal, but keep in mind that sometimes simple problems with simple solutions are actually neither.

I do agree it seems weird. Any other game wth just one class at a time, you can level an alt and grind for tokens on that alt regardless of what your main class may have done. For a game that prides itself on its job system, it does seem contradictory.
