New guy here. Couple of questions.

Hi guys/gals.

Started playing two days ago and really loving it. Big FF-fan but never played FF XI.

Got a couple of questions.

How to find an appropriate guild(linkshell?, FC? <-difference?) to play with? I have two little kids so playing is often limited. Mostly on nights after they go to sleep. I am GMT+1(Norway). So I need a guild where participating in every events isn't necessary or a criteria.

Just got to lvl 10 ARC. Have just played solo. When is it best/necessary to join guild to progress or improve my gear?

Other general tips?

Firstly, the difference between a Free Company (FC) and linkshell (ls) is a FC is much like a standard MMO 'guild' or 'clan', where as a ls is just a private chat channel between the members of that ls. You can only be a member of one FC at a time while you can be a member of up to 8 different lses at a time, so they both have their uses. FCs have the advantage of being able to assign actions that have numerous beneficial buffs, like boosting exp, reducing teleport costs and equipment wear, they have their own crest they create that you can apply to your armour so you feel 'a part' of that FC, they can buy land and establish a FC house (assuming there is still land available on that server - most servers now land is all sold out), and much more, so they are well worth joining.

As for when it's desirable to join a FC, really, that is up to you! Whenever you feel confident to make that step, is the right time personally in my opinion. Taking that plunge into the more social aspect of the game is a major step (at least, it was for me who is naturally shy and prefers to do things on my own a lot of the time), so do it when it feels right for you.

To find a FC or ls, a good place to start is to check the server forum for your server (in your case, here) and find one that is recruiting that suits your needs or purposes. Fcs and lses often also shout out in the game when they're recruiting too so that is another option.

One final piece of advice is also, don't feel like you are obligated to stay with a FC or ls - if you feel you're not being looked after or if you are being ignored/harassed or anything, feel free to leave and find a new one. Your well being is important.

I completed all levequests, but more showed up. Is this is a neverending questmaker for exp as long as you have allowances?

Pertty much. It's designed to teach players basic group mechanics that will be needed later on during Dungeons and Trials. Very useful little thing. :3
