Unfortunately, if you really want to craft at 50+ level, you really must take all crafts up to 50 in order to get the cross skills.

The best way is to run the crafting log to 10-15 or so, then do GC turn ins and leves. Also, I advise leveling gathering at the same time. If you progress all of these at the same time, they are very symbiotic - mats you need for crafting can be obtained by the gatherer at a similar level. Crafted mats needed for one crafts recipe can be made by other crafts at a similar level also.

    Its a long haul.

The best way to level any DoH is:
    1. Always craft HQ - you will want to have them all DoH classes for the cross class abilities to make HQ craft much easier.
    2. Complete your crafting log, each first completion grants a bonus.
    3. Completing Leve Quest turn ins. Turning HQ doubles the Leve reward.
Up to 50, there is always a turn in, that only requires you to make 1 item, and the reward is pretty decent (not the best). This leve is issued in town and handing in to another person in town.
    Using Gridania Leves
Speak to Gontrant and the quest which is turned in to Maisenta. She is just over by the aetheryte. Ususally takes about 3 or 4 leves for each level up. This approach saves you time, you can craft a bunch, and just run back and forth turnin, then restart leve.

Now, if you have a lot of playing time and are burning through you leves to quickly using the above approach, you can opt to use the Triple turn-in Leves. Each Leve tier has one Leve that usually the small XP listed but you can turn in that Leve 3 times and it only cost 1 Leve quest.

    4. Join a Grand Company and deliver request DoH items each day.
    5. Do the Ixali beast tribe quests, it specifically geared towards DoH players.

    Tricky question to answer.
Shortest time estimate assumes you have plenty (and I mean plenty) of Gil to purchase materials (mats) from Market Board.
Each 5 level crafting tier took me about 1 1/2 hours of dedicated play once I had all the mats gathered.
Theoretically, you could level a crafting class to 50 in about 15 hours of play but you will need approximately 70 Leve quests to get there.

If the only reason you are doing this is to make a single Ice Barding it'd be far cheaper to have a random crafter make it for you for 25-50k + Materials.

You could probably go from 1-50 in half an hour to an hour of running between leve NPCs handing stuff in if very rich and lucky enough for your worlds marketplace to have the HQ stock to buy and fulfill the best EXP rewarding leves one after another in quick succession, also having to take into account having enough leve allowance to get from 1-50. What is more realistic however is probably a week or few weeks for your average person putting in an average amount of time doing a mix of grinding crafting and doing some leves while not being very rich or lucky on the markets in order to hit 50 on one DoH.
