People are picking me apart, personally, telling me I should not come to Fanfest, that I should stay away. The implied threat is not lost on me at all. People digging around various social media to find pics of me, to pick at me even more, to get an idea of what I look like, to ascertain whether or not I have any place to talk about this, to ascertain if they can find me at Fanfest. Again, the threat is not lost on me. People telling me I have no business as a white person playing a POC, people making guesses at my ethnic background, all in an attempt to discredit me as a person on whether or not war bonnets being worn by non-Native Americans who didn't earn them is offensive.

    All because of this thread.

This is not a good representation of the FFXIV community at all. I should not be afraid for my safety because I asked people to be more thoughtful, more sensitive. Square has, in the past, removed characters that were racially insensitive, and so it's clearly not something out of their realm of control. I was directed by many people to come and make this thread, and I knew it would end in people attacking me, but I came here anyway to try and talk to the developers, or at least, hopefully have them see this message.

Instead, what has happened is they have thus far, totally ignored 44 pages of people attacking my character, insulting me continuously, and fighting with one another.

Because I called for awareness. Because I called for thoughtfulness. Because I suggested people be sensitive. But that's not how most of you seemed to have taken it. You seem to take it as a personal attack on yourselves, you seem to feel threatened. You feel anger. You feel hate. People screaming that they're offended because I was offended enough to make a simple request and ask the Dev Team to reconsider adding this at-best insensitive item.

There was no way for me to win, coming in here and asking kindly for consideration. But we all lost today. The community as a whole has been absolutely awful to me and to anyone who supports me. To clarify: Anyone who supports that adding a war bonnet is racist. Think about that really hard for awhile. Why are people acting so terribly about this? Why do people feel so attacked at the suggestion? Why is everyone howling for blood and acting offended at the mere suggestion they have to extend basic human decency to a minority?

Maybe you guys should reflect on that really long and hard before you come in here and scream at me and others. Maybe you should think about why it bothers you so much you feel any of this is an appropriate, healthy response to someone asking for something so small as respect.

I will be at Fanfest. I will not be bullied into not attending an event for a game I love, and a game I adore, because of a bunch of angry, offended people who are too scared to examine their privilege. I really hope the developers are seeing this, and seeing the vitriol and hate being aimed at a single person for calling for courtesy.

    This is your community.

I am posting this publicly because I legitimately fear for my safety at this point because of the way some members of this community have felt is an appropriate way to approach me about this topic. Maybe if I make an exceptionally visible post, I will have some level of safety at this very public event.

You have it within in you to be a better person than this.

Wieder was gelernt
