Because reading comprehension is difficult.
Insult all you want, it doesn't make them free. Mana isn't the only resource, and as long as these abilities compete for the same limited resource, they aren't free. And for as long as that is the case you might not have a "medica every 30 seconds" because you spent the cost on something else.
