What's the point of gil?

What is there in this game that really is a gil sink?

I made about 1mil leveling to 60 and now that I'm capped the only thing I really spend money on is porting around, food, and some glamour items. Members of my fc have told that even if I wanted to buy a house there aren't any available. So what the hell is the point? Am I missing something?

Other than what you listed (food, teleporting, glams) I also use my gil on crafting mats when I'm lazy, HQ gear I can't make, materia, minions, housing items. Most are just vanity. What else is there to spend gil on?

edit: Needed millions of gil if you wanted to spec out your relic weapon back in the day.

For real, crafting..buying things you're too lazy to make... I spend too much on glamour prisms I could very well make but just can't be bothered.

I'm sure 3.0 relic will be another massive gil sink. Also, there will probably be more housing districts in the future.
Almost forgot raiding....raiding can get very expensive.

It's for keeping score. That, and so we don't have to spend all day trading items around in some kind of barter system where I give person A something in exchange for something person B wants so he can craft it into something person C wants, to trade with person D in exchange for something I want. But mostly, for keeping score.

I just spent 2 mil gil on simple 3.0 mats last two days, than again im lazy. I always find something to spend money on heh..

Vanity mostly. You don't really need to buy anything to play PVE. But you'll find some piece of armor you want to glamour or that one piece of furniture you want to put in you FC room.

in 3.0 i've spent about 50mil on leveling desynth, crafts, materials for hq gear, random stuff. so yea there's a lot you can spend it on.

Not much gil: nothing to spend it on.
A fair bit of gil: overpriced glamour items.
Too much gil: You're the 1% and can actually buy a house in this game.
