I want LL because of the good solo grinding i can do there, plus there are 2 class guilds that have been unreleased there(arcanist, musketter), also I want to start doing BSM and ARM crafting, so everything works out to go there. I started out in Grid though.
The thing is, even if the worst case is true (I'm certain it's not), there's no need for everyone to flock to one company because "omg, everyone's going to this company." Even if 95% of your server goes with the Flames, as long as you know enough people in the remaining 2-3% that went with the company you want, you're set. Remember, even in the worst case, as long as you can find 7 other people on your server that didn't go with the majority, you're good to go.However then you might have people turning down a perfectly good party member just because they don't have the one company the group needs. I think the devs need to clarify this right away. I can understand why they would put such a system in however all it does is force people to go with the majority for the best bonuses. People should join a company because it's the one they want to, not because they'll be shunned from parties without it.
Everyone panicking and bolting for Uldah just because they think everyone is going to panic and bolt for Uldah has to be one of the crappiest self-fulfilling prophecies I've seen lately. If everyone would stop over-reacting, we'd see a fairly even spread among the three cities. [panicvoice]But no! Everyone goes to Uldah! Why!? Because that's where everyone goes![/panicvoice]
When Ishgard comes out and that's the new central place should we just delete all three starter cities?
Again, not talking about the social centers. It the fact that all the new ingame content centers around Ul'dah.
Just as before, there's no reason to go to the other cities than for a handful of quests for specific classes. Which makes them ghost towns and less desirable.
@Vivirianda: I've already admitted that my post was a little preemptive, but thanks for coming in with your attitude anyway.
Someone has said the Japanese notes state it's only for the rank 30 battle, which is fine as it's likely only seals or exp. Still, "greater" is a vague word. It could mean a lot of things. And in a game where you can do or achieve everything and anything with one character, it seems strange that we'd suddenly be locked out of potential reward for a choice we can't change.
It's silly to come in here like a blowhard and act like the combined amount of content won't continue to drive people into Ul'dah and make the natural choice that "if I'm already always in Ul'dah and will continue to need to be here, then Immortal Flames is the easiest choice."
Well it is in the middle. So by definition it centralized itself by being put in the middle. I stay in LL and Grid more than I do Uldah personally, because of Carpenter guilds and the LL area is my favorite by far in the game atm. But as soon as Ishgard opens up Uldah will perish in the same way.So the patch notes show that SE has just further centralized Ul'dah.
In addition to most new quests starting there or in Thanalan -- including all materia-related content -- they have the only NPC who can remove materia.
Also there's the "greater rewards when all members are from the same grand company" bit for Bowl of Embers. What's the incentive to join any other grand company? Immortal Flames will be the only option if you want good rewards from Ifrit. And I assume this will be a common practice?
I was personally hoping to join LL but now it seems LL and Grid are just the lesser cousins of Ul'dah.
I'll probably join Order of the Twin Adder; my character started in Ul'Dah but I spend a lot of time in Black Shroud anyway. It is obvious however that Ul'Dah is by FAR the most populous city. Seems on Saronia you're lucky to see anyone in LL unless you're stood in the pub!
and... when they open up Ishgard?
Then what? close Uldah aswell?
No, i like Limsa & Grid where they are right now.
If this game will expand like FFXI, then im sure they will find / add new things to the older cities aswell.
Like spcial quests / mission with special rewards for that city / region only.
I used to be Noomy...then i took shiva's Hail Storm to my knee...
Hey just a heads up:
Awesome. Alright everyone, cast off those company restraints and go with your first choices.I wanted to post a heads up that Yoshida has confirmed that "Those who defeat Ifrit in a party formed exclusively of members from their own Grand Company will earn greater rewards" only applies to the level 25+ battle (Bowl of Embers [Normal]) and not the high level one.
He also mentioned that the bonus earned when all 3 grand companies are represented in the party will be implemented in the future and again reiterates, please choose the Grand Company you want to. The choice is yours.
"There are many difficult times ahead, but you must keep your sense of humor, work through the tough situations and enjoy yourself".

Greetings everyone!
Thank you for taking the time to post and for your feedback. It seems as tough there's been a response to the issue so the thread will be closed now. Thanks again!
