Got back into the game yesterday after a LONG period of absence. Game is really shaping up into something good. A couple of months ago I had my doubts because of the things they prioritized, but all the small additions are finally starting to add up into something bigger.
ANYWAY!
I'm rank 39. Pre-1.19 I'd get like 100 SP or so per mob IIRC. Yesterday I thought I'd kill a rank 39 sheep, just for fun (Was my first fight post-1.19). I got 500 XP. Couldn't believe my eyes.
I already had 40000/68000 XP, so if the new XP reward system is calculated based on how many encounters you're supposed to have in a particular level, that would mean I only had to fight 56 more sheep to level up. Just what the f-! How many mobs do you think I killed just to get to 39?! And now this?! And the XP I got from a lvl 10 leve quest on my alt? 1k XP. I got 100 XP per the actual leve mobs, and there were 8 of them.
I'm a pretty casual gamer when it comes to theme-park MMOs, but even I thought this was sort of a pisstake. Just what are they thinking.
But! After giving it some extra thought it became pretty damn apparent what they were trying to do.
- They are shifting focus from classes to jobs.
- New XP rates should stop us from remaining in 1 area for extreme periods of time (Which was a major gripe with the game).
- The increased XP rates is a bigger incentive to level up more than 1 class, which was supposed to be a core aspect of the game but wasn't very casual-friendly due to the old SP-rates.
- They are shifting focus from classes to jobs.
- Level 50 isn't even the "real" cap/endgame.
- They are shifting focus from classes to jobs.
The new rates is a long term change in preparation for additional mechanics and/or increased level cap, like pretty much ALL of the changes made to the game prior to this. Square are just bad at telling us WHY they make these changes. All they tell us is that they made them.
Just wait till we get jobs, I'm sure they will be as ballbreaking to rank up as you want them to be.
