    How do you gear classes/jobs?

I've leveled my first job and now there is a lack of quests. Where do I obtain gear to make sure I'm dealing the right amount of damage for my level?

I bought a few pieces on my THM and got some from dungeons but my damage is god awful. Do you have to sink money into the market board or level a profession to efficiently level alternate classes?

When I level my other classes..during leveling I use dungeon drops and maybe a weapon from the MB if a dungeon one doesn't drop (I always try to keep my weapon up-to-date..the other stuff not so much) While leveling I don't worry too much about my stats. Instead I try out different rotations, etc.
I'm pretty sure while lvling my MCH to fifty I wore like, an earring, and that was my only accessory (don't be as bad/lazy as me though). After that I had all my old Bard gear so... I was good for a while.

When I finally hit max level, currently I'm buying the tome of Law gear for all my alts, so running dungeons. Since I pretty much greed everything all the time I have a buuunch of extra loot from the dungeons that I can slap on my classes so that they are at least adequate for endgame, too.

As for getting actual experience...personally I level mostly through dungeons/roulette/challenge log. I hate FATE grinding...it's so boring and doesn't teach you anything. And all my leves are for gathering/crafting so I don't level battle classes that way, either. So I'm always running into dungeon gear.

I was kicked because my DPS was ****. Is it just the THM class compared to other melee classes that can get by with a good weapon>

Hmm. What rotation are you using for THM? Though honestly I have no idea why anyone would kick...anyone. In like a pre-50 dungeon for bad DPS. Sounds like you got a bunch of bad apples

I think all classes need to have an updated weapon. Armor secondary stats (Spell speed, crit, determination, etc) do help with damage, but Weapon Damage is the most important factor in how much damage you are going to be dealing.

Your class quests will give you a weapon every five levels until level 30 I think. Battlecraft Leves also reward gear occasionally.

If you really need to fill some main gear slots, you can purchase gear from Merchant and Mender NPCs in major settlements. Just head to a level appropriate zone and look for the vendor.

I'd never suggest buying gear from the MB that's more expensive than what you can find at the vendors, especially for a newer player that's short on funds. Instead, do what I do and be the seller for odd pieces that you pick up that you don't think you'll ever use; you'd be surprised at how much that stuff will sell for on the MB!

Two other resources (not in game): http://ffxivcrafting.com and http://xivdb.com/

The first one is awesome. Plug in your class and level, and it will spit out a list of gear and where it comes from. The second site will help you find the NPCs that sell the gear that you want. You can hit up the MB in the city and check for the pieces you want too--sometimes folks put them up for cheaper than vendor price and you can get a deal.

    Good luck!

Edit: OH!! I almost forgot--check your Grand Company Quartermaster, especially for weapons once you get past level 30 if you don't get drops in dungeons. You can definitely get nice weapons and gear at the GC.

The Market Board is sometimes outrageously expensive and other times ridiculously cheap. Given how high the variability is (especially on leveling gear), it's a good idea to check it not only for the gear you want now, but the gear you'll want within the next several levels. That gives you a bit more time to watch for good deals to come along.

The others have already answered plenty for you but I would definitely like to emphasize the use of your GC for gear while leveling 1-50. All of the gear there is green so if you dont get dungeon drops and such you can easily buy gear for GC seals, which you can also easily max out just from using fates to level sometimes

You can also buy level relevant gear from NPCs. Which NPCs? Simple - the NPCs in the areas that are relevant to your story progress (For instance, you'll find level 15 gear around Aleport and Swiftperch, since that's where Sastasha was; at level 20, NPCs in Quarrymill and the East Shroud will outfit you).

Your weapon is the most important piece of gear to keep updated in terms of power; the rest of your gear is less immediate. That said, for DPS classes, gear is only the determinant of what the cap on your DPS could be - learning you class' skills and how to properly use them is the determinant of how much of that DPS you will actually put out.

Also if someone kicks you for your DPS being terrible, you should report them. Vote Kick used as a weapon against players, and abuse based on data from third party tools, is generally not tolerated.
