Well to be specific, the benefits of lancer in darkhold are:
Force proc elbow drop from the ogre so that it spends all its time doing that instead of hurting the tank. (although any class can do this, not just lancer)
lots of AOE weaponskills that kill skellies fast. Lifesurge also helps survivability.
leg sweep, leg sweep, leg sweep
if you force elbow drop on ogre, you should take minimal damage. On batraal, your main responsibility is killing the skellies, and when not doing that, you chaos thrust the shit out of batty in battle regimens for massive damage. If you stand within batraal's model, then you shouldn't get hit by the ghosts that much. But still, on a speed run, you kill batraal so fast, it doesn't even matter.
Keen flurry is now the chainspell of weaponskills.

LNC have a great use, I agree. Unfortunately, the thing is, the first efficient strategy developed consisted of a certain party make-up. And because of this, people latch onto the first thing they know and the easiest to learn. And it's especially easy to learn when your ranged rarely get touched.
I think after reviewing the Ifrit video a bit more that they've taken a few more steps to dissuade the whole "range or GTFO" mentality that most people have at the moment. The video looks like it will be forcing movement across the battle area which will be nice, since ARCs are squishy, and have multi-shot nerfed, they should be less of a "requirement" in peoples' minds post-1.19.
Eh, let people be ignorant. Sounds like Lancer is Dragoon from XI all over again. I love how people cling to popular strategies and have no drive to experiment, or even put themselves in a situation where they would have to improvise. No risk of death = No fun.
I love that they changed Keen Flurry and Twisting Vice. This might make soloing some of the tougher NMs easier.
Doesn't matter anymore. LNC seems to be a pretty big powerhouse now.
btw Doomspike II is win on Ifirit
Doomspike II is awesome now! not to mention Keen Flurry + Twisting Vice.
My LNC 45 was outdamaging a lvl 50 PUG with Doomspike @ Amalja Stronghold. On the other side, they killed me pretty fast while the PUG took a lot of punshiment easly.
