Don't mind the people who say the original looks better. Anytime someone posts a reshade/sweetfx comparison, people come out of the woodworks all vile and ready to tear it apart. I can't understand the utter hatred towards it, but then again, some people hate when anyone challenges the status quo.
That being said, what exactly are your presets? Would you be willing to upload them? I'd like to play around with it, but I don't have the time to fiddle with the settings for hours, unfortunately.
I'd love to be able to try something like this, but I really have no clue on where to begin. I downloaded the package but now I'm stumped. I have no clue on what DLL's I need to rename, or how I go about changing the settings. I need one of those idiots guides I think.
Not a fan of oversaturated colors. It hurts my eyes after a while.
Rather have it as the creators intended.
As for DoF, I'm not sure it's really possible to do it properly without access to the depth buffer. I have no idea what heuristic Reshade uses to guess which parts of the image is further back.
Yes i know you don't like saturation, just like some people don't like dull bland colors and Vaseline smeared visuals. This post was obviously nothing more than information for people on the fence about using reshade and i encourage them to ask questions on how to get their desired look. You can literally get any type of visual you want, it does not have to be saturated. Not a fan of oversaturated colors. It hurts my eyes after a while.

As for the depth of field, the depth buffer is still in beta.
See, it's fine you don't like saturated colors but please don't come with the whole "as the creators intended nonsense". It's a really lame excuse to dislike this kind of tool. Not a fan of oversaturated colors. It hurts my eyes after a while.

All you need to do is download reshade 18.7+framework run the .exe and point it toward your .exe . If it asks you which version you want installed and it gives you the option to tick DX11 then do that, if not then go ahead and install anyway just make sure to delete the d3d9.dll, keep the dxgi.dll. Then tweak away, run in windowed mode, change values and save the document. Your game should update in real time. Also make sure for the config files that you use notepad or notepad+ as the default program to open them up!.
With regards to the "Vaseline smeared visuals", SE really needs to add some other kind of AA other than FXAA.Yes i know you don't like saturation, just like some people don't like dull bland colors and Vaseline smeared visuals. SMAA T2x would be nice.
The depth buffer is part of the rendering process, it's really just a texture that's the same resolution as the final display resolution where it's values represent the depth of the pixel rather than color, and normally isn't accessible to 3rd party post-processing tools like Reshade or SweetFX. You can see how DoF is trivial to do with a depth buffer, just blur depending on how "deep" the pixel is.
I never said I disliked the tool.
As for "as the creators intended" ... well, if you view the game as a piece of art ...
It's more of a "philosophical" concern. Feel free to play how you want.
The depth of field is not one of extreme quality, unless you tweak it to perfection, it will not look the best. Which i am going to try today!. I would love to be able to use something other than FXAA in XIV. Sadly whenever people bring it up others will complain. Theres a thread on AA somewhere on these forums with quite a few supporters. With regards to the "Vaseline smeared visuals", SE really needs to add some other kind of AA other than FXAA.
