When did you start tanking?

I started out as Bard and went to get cross class skills on Dragoon then figured as long as I had to level to 34 to get Blood for Blood I might as well level Marauder to 26 to get Mercy stroke. Then I figured if I had to get Marauder to 26 I was doing dungeons so I ought to get Gladiator to 18 to get provoke.

Once I started playing marauder in the dungeons I loved it. After that first "whee!" of the tomahawk swing to pull enemies I never looked back. I got my Warrior to 50 and used a Fantasia to change my Elezen to Hyur Highlander and I've been maining Warrior ever since. Got Paladin and Dark to 50 and will eventually get them to 60. There's nothing that beats the thrill of tanking, to me. I like to lead the party and get them their full or speed clears.

well since the "Tank role has exsisted since the dawn of the "trinity" (solo or mutiplayer games) I've been 1 in Solo games for a long, damn ass long time do to untrustworthy NPC's that can't hold hate worth a damn. As for Muliplyer games, that would be WKC2 as a Spear-Tank (or sword had points in both) I've always like the "sword & Shield" combo... thou would be completly perma-happy if I ever get a "Gunsword & Shield" class.

I've always been a tank. I enjoyed playing melee guys that could take lots of damage while my brother always played the magic classes when were were younger in the days of the SNES. When I finally got around to playing an MMO for the first time (I can't even remember what it was. It was Runescape, but that doesn't count) I looked at my choices and the dude with lots of life and a sword was the tank class. So that's what I went with.

I always main tank cause I don't trust other to do it and tanks are usually the least played class in any MMO cause people don't want to play a "leader" class that can't do any damage. If you can't lead somewhat, people will get annoyed with you if you are really slow at grabbing mobs or doing what's expected.

Best part of being a tank? You can be a huge dick and get away with it if you do your job perfectly since they don't want to get rid of you cause you're rare in dungeons.

I've been tanking in MMOs for years and levelled my Paladin on XIV as my first job. I actually took a massive break from tanking (after T5 was current), to play other roles, but now I'm back levelling it to 60.

City of Heroes. 2004? Something like that. Then in WoW '06-'15, then now in FFXIV, though I don't queue as tank anymore.

This is the first MMO I've tanked in. I've played a number of MMOs, but this is the first one I've paid real money for. Basically, I picked MRD because none of the other classes appealed to me. So I leveled it and I discovered that I really liked tanking. Now that Heavensward's out I'm trying to level DRK. I like tanking because of the sense of responsibility you have and the feeling of accomplishment when you finish a run with no wipes.

Back in WOW in 2007. It's the only job I've ever enjoyed in MMOs. Fell into it quite by accident too: We needed a tank and couldn't get one, so I stepped up. Good times.

My first ever char was a MAR. I immediately liked it and this is the 2xth char, and I still love being a WAR.

I didn't know that MAR was a tank and when I got into Sastasha (although by the looks of my HP bar and this "enmity" thing, I got a feeling that it was a tank) for the first time, luckily I had a friendly team and I learned the ropes then. I stuck with it and made it to 50. That was a long time ago. Still brings a tear to my eyes.
