    [Suggestion] Dye & Skin

I've posted these a while ago in the german section and took the time now to translate it to know what you think about it. Following are only my suggestions and opinions also I concidered the game itself a bit (how other stuff works etc).

Dear SE-Staff and who ever is responsible to decide and implement this stuff:

In every game I miss it (sometimes more sometimes less). Free dying and "skinning" of items. FFXIV is no exception.
So following are some suggestions I came up with:

    1 - Cross-Skinning
It would be reaaaaaaaally awsome, to use skins irrespective of class/job and material restrictions (the only thing would be race specific EQ should stay like that).
I believe I though following argument of yoshis against it (in a live letter I think): "This would only confuse new players unnecessary"
In my opinion that's totally invalid. It's already confusing enough to think "Yay I got 2 healer and no tank? oh wait, that one with the wedding dress is actually a tank"
Well my point, there is already enough confusing stuff, so why not just let as skin what we want <3

    2 - Dyes
I think it should be possible (at least as alchemist) to create new dyes by mixing (crafting). For example if you mix it and even get it HQ, it is a metalic/glittering/shiny/<insert (particle) effect> dye. Also, dyes should be used in craffting recipes, so the dyes themselves are more usefull?

    3 - Dying
It would be nice if everything would be dyable. Even if it's a similar system to materia melding, it would be fine. For example: I let the weaver treat my cloth armor with DyeX and MatY and there will be a X% chance for it to be successful. Or it will be a X% chance to have the intended color, or there was a mistake and it's a different color. Would also make dyes more valuable.

    4 - Dying housing items
Almost no housing items are dyable. This way, it all feels really random and doesn't match at all, or you have to furnish it by set eg all tonberry stuff.
To make it not "too simple" like the armor dye system, this is my suggestion:
Either you need another crafter quest (like materia quest or so) or another master book to learn the "new dying art" or something like that. For each item there are multiple options. Eg.: Normal recipe for the Item + Dye + Catalyst (or something) = Item with intended color. If HQ it get's a nice effect (like point 2), this way, there is a worth making housing items in HQ and using HQ items for it.
Not all recipes don't have to be available from the start. For example through quests or crafting something Xtimes unlocks X recipes. Or there could be a system "to experiment". It allows you to try to mix items with dyes and unlick receips with it.

    5 - Craftable Tattoos
As a female and fan of the southsea talisman I hope there will be coming more skins like that.
They could also be craftable. For example using TT-Cards to craft a skin with their motive as a tattoo. Eg: Neutral skin (to choose body part) + TT-Card + some catalyst = Tattoo skin for chosen body part.
Again you could implement an experimenting mode here. Try to mix on of each category (armor, card, catalyst). If it fails, the mats are gone, if successful you unlock the new recipe for it.$

    Thats all for now~

Here is my non-aggressive feedback that is not attacking you in anyway. I simply am voicing my opinion on your suggestions. So don't hit me.

#1 I dont want to see a scholar holding a gigantic 2H sword for no reason. I dont want to see ninjas slashing away with books and shields. "Already enough confusing stuff" so whyyyyy would you want to turn everything else into a dump? Sorry, but no. Just no.
#2 There are sooooo many colors as it is. You are just being picky. Why do you need more use for them in crafting??? They have a use... to change color! Nothing more needed.
#3 Wonderfully horrible suggestion. Lets add RNG to dyes... right.
#4 there are so many ways to make your living space unique with the hundreds of items. Once again I really feel you are just being picky. Let them focus on real updates that would make the game more fun.
#5 tattoos could be cool. I dont understand why TT would need to come into play here but ok, since unfortunately it will probably never happen, sure why not.

Dyeing furniture items would be nice, though. As it stands, everyone's homes look the same and partitions don't match the wallpapers and the stupid manor sofa can't be dyed even though the manor couch is dye-able(meaning they don't match). There are no dye-able rugs. There's no dye-able flooring options. No dye-able wallpapers. Things like that would be nice and the more customization the better. Tattoos would be great, too, and the tt card comes in so you can choose a character tattoo if you choose, like Terra or Shiva.
This person isn't ranting, they're making suggestions for things they would enjoy. Just adding more stuff to the game to make it more fun for them is all this thread is. There was no need to be snarky, danke.

Wasn't being snarky. I guess my personality is just more to the point and I voice how I really feel from the get go, which is I deeply disagree with most of the OP's suggestions. If they didn't want some feedback or criticism they could have quite easily submitted a private message through the in game suggestion option. They instead came to the forum so I happily pitched in my 2 cents. If you'd like I could start ending all of my sentences with smiley faces? <-- now that was being snarky.

    ...anyways

Furniture dye would be cool, but again there are lots of ways to make your house unique. So because there are literally hundreds of amazingly great things that could be added to the game and hundreds more that should be corrected, I think they should focus on those things before even considering wasting time with dyeing your choco-chair or whatever you have.

Yeah the tattoo thing is a cool idea. That's why I was just like, "sure why not" I didn't understand what they meant but it seemed fine. Thanks for the clarification.

Adressing my RNG suggestions... I thought of them because the whole game is based on rng, I personally hate it, because I got really bad luck. And also I didn't want them to make this stuff top priority or anything, there is a lot to be changed, starting by the very core of the game .. but that's another story

And about the cross skinning, it actually didn't cross my mind to skin other weps, so i guess I would make that an exception as I basicly meant armor. For example, personally I find that monk/ninja has the armor that best fits my style and my character (as in RPG), so I'd love to get some other skins than 1 piece priest gowns where you can't even see what pants/shoes you wear.

And I might be a bit picky yea, because I know the housing in Wildstar and I know the dye variation and options in GW2.

But thanks for your feedback, I hope there will be some more :P
