    NVIDIA SHIELD - Working!

Posted in beta forums. Reposting here for users enjoyment.

FFXIV is playable on NVIDIA SHIELD!!

Step 1) Set up FFXIV to play borderless windowed
Step 2) Add FFXIV to Steam
Step 3) Configure FFXIV for a XINPUT controller. This is NECESSARY!!!! The SHIELD acts as XINPUT Controller 1 when attached
Step 4) Launch Steam from NVIDIA SHIELD. Log in using keyboard on PC or virtual keyboard on SHIELD.
    Step 5) Enjoy

I cant get this to work. I add the game to my steam library but when i launch it from nvidia shield nothing happens. its like i didnt even click the button but when i check the log it creates in my ffxiv folder i get this
    22:58:38 [0x000015CC, ERROR] Launcher::Launch threw an exception

    Failed to start external process
any ideas? all my other games launch fine including Tera.

EDIT: so i got it to work by removing the SweetFX files I was using to enhance the graphics (my god this game is beautiful with the right tweeks) so it works.
Except that the android keyboard wont pop up so I cant type my password in the launcher. Its always something lol

Use a "two finger touch" to bring up the shield overlay menu. Click on Keyboard, and voila.

Edit: or walk over to the PC to log in... haha

yea shield is playing this game flawless. The first MMO to be played on a portable device I believe. I hope the community discovers this thread and gets a Nvidia Shield. Its a really impressive device. Playing FF14 anywhere in the house is really really cool.

Say you went to work and used their wifi, could you play your PC games through an internet connection on a different network with the shield?

But it's not truly portable right? You have to be on the same network as the computer running FFXIV? I really don't know I thought I read that somewhere.

Found this on the shield's FAQ page:

How does streaming games from my PC to SHIELD work?

NVIDIA uses the H.264 encoder built into GeForce GTX 650 or higher desktop GPUs along with special streaming software integrated into GeForce experience to stream games from the PC to SHIELD over the user's home Wi-fi network with ultra-low latency. Gamers use SHIELD as the controller and display for their favorite PC games as well as for steam big picture. This enables gamers to get a GeForce GTX PC gaming experience anywhere in their home Wi-fi network.

So i'm pretty sure you have to be at home to play it... if i could be somewhere else and play, it ~might~ be worth that $300

if you watch this youtube video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3Lgxy...ature=youtu.be you will see at the end of the video that the guy mentions and shows a Verizon Hotspot thingy he has setup with VPN with his pc or something. This allows you play shield and ff14 away from your house somehow I'm gathering? Watch and see what you think

I own the Nvidia Shield and I'm really happy with it. Its totally worth the price of admission imo. It does everything a android device does plus its atleast 2x stronger graphically than a Vita. You will not regret buying one especially for this game.

My friend has ffxiv running on one of the razer windows tablets fairly well and thats an actual install on the tablet itself. Not the best graphic settings but far from the lowest. Cant wait to get my win8 tablet to see if its possible to run it on the one work is giving me to test before company wide implementation.

With the screen as small as it is do you find it hard to see? My wife and I may be having another baby in the next year which will lead to me putting the computer in the basement and giving up my office. I've been looking at getting a laptop so that I can play in the bedroom without disturbing the Mrs; however, if this is viable then I could go this route instead (and upgrade my graphics card since I have a 560 currently).

We don't want the full computer in the room, and I don't want to be a basement dweller, so I need someting more portable to play on.
