    Wireless connection drops

So I have a cable modem/router combo in one room and in the room I play in I have a wireless network adapter (USB). When I play I notice lag sometimes and eventually the game will send me to the black screen with a 90002 error. If I alt tab fast enough I can see that my internet connection was dropped but quickly reconnects. I have been looking all over but no one seems to have this exact problem. I'm getting frustrated not in the least because I craft a lot and have lost expensive mats due to this. Please help, any suggestions.

You're using a wireless connection to play something very network heavy, stop.

I would but it's the only way I can play. The router/modem is in another room (It's a cable modem/wireless router) and there is no way to plug an ethernet cable into this computer from where it is. Would something like a wireless repeater help strengthen the signal or some such?

There's signal boosters you can buy and such but it's never going to be as stable as a wired connection, if you're using a USB adapter instead of an actual PCi wireless network card I'm going to assume....laptop?

Cause there's some really good wireless cards out there if you're willing to spend the money for them, but they're designed for desktops, but the speeds and stability they offer will give you a bigger improvement. Here's an example http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16833320074

On the whole wireless is just awful for gaming, stuff like regular console games that use a small amount of ping are fine most of the time, but MMOs send a LOT of data back and forth which is why you're seeing those disconnects.

I can't guarantee this'll solve your problem, but I do know USB adapters are even worse than using wireless for gaming to begin with.

Maybe look into a longer cable? Sounds stupid I know but they make some really really long cables.

i actually am on a desktop which makes the situation even sadder. It's a good machine, just didn't come with a wireless network card. I'll give those solutions a shot. Thanks for the help, it's been really...help, ful.

First of all, virtually no one uses a direct wired connection anymore... Most wireless connections are stable. I don't know how long you've had your equipment, but those devices don't last forever. The usb connections generally last about 2 years on average and a good router typically lasts about 3-5 years. Honestly, I would begin with the router to troubleshoot as they are easier to borrow cause most ppl have one. Generally speaking, a good router will drop connection about once every other week (24hr a day you may not notice). If your connection is lost 1-2 times a day then your router needs to be replaced. If the usb converter is dying than you will also notice the connection going out daily and eventually it will only last a few hours then not at all. So it's hard to say which equipment is malfunctioning in your case without troubleshooting. You will know if it's your usb if your phone etc still picks up wifi while you computer doesn't.

You can also contact your internet service provider. If you are renting a modem through them it could need updating (usually not). There could also be an overall connection issue in your area if you are using a cable modem. If there are serious interferences in your area then your connection could be affected. You'd think they can see this on there network but it's not 100% the case. They will also be able to tell you if your modem is still good etc.

Ff14 does not send and receive as much data as you'd believe. And a usb connection is PLENTY powerful enough (mine is 16 Mbps on average). The concern is only if your equipment is keeping connection (getting old etc).
