How I'm interpreting all this (heavy spoilers ahead) :
On the archbishop's final moments light is fading away from him. So it's not that there's something dark about us, that's just a representation of his life extinguishing, we just happen to be on his field of view at that moment. I was confused by this at first, because of the mix of that darkness, what he asked -"Who- What are you?!"- and our character's expression afterwards, which at quick glance may look like an evil grin, but I think it to be a worried expression instead.
So, he's questioning both our nature and our purpose. Until now we think we're an entity sent by a higher being -the planet itself- and never questioned it. But what if we're something else? We've always cared only about our mission and never about ourselves, and the people around us have never wondered nor questioned our nature beyond being the "warrior of Light". Nobody researches what a "warrior of light" is. I think the archbishop is the very first character in the entire game to make the honest question, so only now we're left wondering the same. What kind of freak are we?
And a freak I think we are. By what we've learned on Heavensward about summoning I think it's entirely possible that we're nothing more than a primal, channeling the people's hopes for a champion to save them and sustained by Hydaelin's aether. And I think the warrior of darkness is another such primal.
By the way, I also think it's possible for that Nanamo that woke up to be another primal channeling the people of Ul'dah's faith on her leadership and that the real Nanamo is actually dead. (It would give Lolorito's nonsensical schemes some meaning at least)
Well, who- or whatever the Warrior of Darkness is, I want to take him on. If the story's going the way I think it's going, we (WoLs) are really the only ones who will be able to stand up to the Warrior of Darkness.
Three Ilm Knights, One Thousand Malm Road
That is already what the story tells us.
If there is anything wrong in the world or something bad that threaten it and no one can stop or fix this problem then leave it the the WoL because the WoL can do anything.![]()

lol WoL a primal, the WoD a primal. Nanamo a primal.
I think everyone here went really off topic and for thinking to much now our brains are water. SERIOUSLY??!! Nanamo a primal, for god's sake, this gotta be a joke hahahahahahahahahaha xD
I really laught when I read the comment of Nanamo being a primal.
I think all this crasy theorys and speculations are really messing with us, seriously people we need to slow down xD
Hey, maybe Yoshida is a primal too, maybe the existence itself is a primal LOL
I say it's parallel dimensions. That would explain why we are all Warriors of Light in a way.
We all live the same events from the same point of view yet we are ''the only one''. What if the Echo is simply the power born from being one of the many to be ''The One''? Echo means repetition/reflection of an original sound. It might be that we are all copies of an original entity that is the Warrior of Light/Darkness, all repeating the same story over and over again.
But what if it was a matter of mere perspective? We may all be the Warrior of Light in our world, performing heroic feats for the greater good but we could very well be the WoD to another WoL. This derplander might simply be the WoL of his own world and sees us as the WoD.
I feel like this Warrior of Darkness is not a copy of our character but the representation of other players in other worlds. They will probably simply use him (or a shapechanger who takes on the appearance of another player) and explain that there are more ''playing the game'' but it could also lead to some kind of PvP event or a faction system aswell. All will depend on what they have in mind for the future of the game.
Welcome to speculation, enjoy your stay.lol WoL a primal, the WoD a primal. Nanamo a primal.

I'd say the biggest question about this is: What exactly would we be doing if we joined up with Elibidus and the Warrior of Darkness. And when I say "exact" I mean "exact." I don't mean vague nonsense like "restore balance" or "keep the light at bay" without any context within the game's narrative as to what it means. I dunno, I just feel like I need a bit more substance before I start drinking Ascian Kool-Aid.

If we were to join with the Ascians we would be acting in direct opposition to what we were tasked by Hydaelyn, very much making us villains in the game's overarching story. This has only one obvious, if dubious, benefit. Open world PvP. This is not the kind of game, story nor game company that does that kind of thing. Even if you quote past Final Fantasies where you start as the bad guy, how long do you STAY the bad guy? This is a game of heroes, villians need not apply.I'd say the biggest question about this is: What exactly would we be doing if we joined up with Elibidus and the Warrior of Darkness. Unless there is a part of History missing about Hydaelyn and Zodiark that no one, even the Ascians, know about.
A part of the Hydaelyn and Zodiark lore that has been bothering me even now is that it feels like there is a piece of history missing from the World.
The Ascians keep say the original world was a world ruled by Zodiark while the people we know keep saying that the world has always been ruled by Hydaelyn.
Not to mention it seems Urianger may know something that we do not nor the Black Robe Ascians since Elidibus may have told Urianger something that would determine the fate of the world as a whole judging by what Eldibus said to Urianger. Maybe affecting the fate of both Hydaelyn and Zodiark.
After all Elidibus said "I would speak of fate, Archon. Yours, mine - the fate of this very star."
