Thinking of starting tanking

I main NIN and was looking at leveling another DPS but recently the long queue times and the thought of just doing everything again to see a marginal increase from another DPS class put me off.
So I was thinking of learning tanking ive never played a tank before and was looking at a warrior to start learning with?
I was just wondering if they are good tanks, easy to learn with? How is tanking is this game? Ive just recently unlocked heavensward im yet to unlock and learn any mechanics in the new dungeons.

WAR's pretty kickass tank right now, especially if you're accustomed to DPS. You will need GLA to 22 for Provoke, though. It's not really optional.

Healers are in higher demand than tanks at the moment if you're eyeing queue times.

WAR are in a really good place right now. I would suggest taking GLD to 34 though, Awareness + Raw Intuition is pure WIN.

PLD is abit easier to tank on though, so if your not too confident about tanking may wanna take a look at that. DRK has high DPS too for a tank, although my DRK is only 53 I cant speak for them at 60, just feels kinda lacking to me atm @53, Will push through and level it to 60 though and see how I feel then. Mostly I play WAR atm though, the stance changing is nice and has a fluid feel to it.

Queue times are pretty good for tank atm but the above poster is right, you'll be waiting on healers some atm. No where near as bad as DPS queues tho

As PWilson mentioned, you need provoke. So IMO start with GLA. WARs are really fun though!

I want to mention though, if your just starting out, you are going to make mistakes that you and everyone else in the party will be immediately aware of, and of course the Internet will provide you with d-bags occasionally.its just kinda the way it is. Keep at it though, it is worth it in the end.

I kinda feel like I waited too late to start tanking. content less than Heavensward kinda has no room for "learners". I grouped with people in DF (since PF is all about that Heavensward) who are Lv60 (I'm still Lv50) that wouldn't really let me "learn" to tank T11 and Shiva Ex (I was choosing random duties).

I feel I need the practice now, or I'll stink it up in Heavensward.

lol... I remember when no one wanted a WAR to tank, especially healers. Now, folks are saying PLDs need more/better stuff.

Well, once mitigation got evened out, and there is not a single fight balanced around needing paladin's mitigation (or really, any of their other tools), aside from LB issues and possibly debuff application, there is no reason not to bring the highest dps tank.

Which is why...the reasoning behind why pali is behind on dps makes me sad. PLD's loss of dps is way, way higher than the amount of dps a healer would gain from healing a marginally easier to heal tank.

Warrior is my favorite tank so far (without playing DK though). It is harder to be good at then PLD though so be prepared to put some time in to learn it properly.

Agreed. It is kinda sad how far behind warriors paladins are. But don't forget warriors have too much dps compared to paladins too little so it looks worse. As it stands, a war offtank can outdps dpsers, which needs to be toned down significantly as im seeing them fill dps slots in pf groups. even in my full str set, a comparable geared warrior has 400 dps over me.
