PvP Matching
We’re aware of comments saying that you’d rather we not focus on the lore aspect of PvP matching, but by removing the Grand Company restrictions it may cause fixed matches to be made, and we’re worried about this. This is why it is set the way it is now. With that said, we are considering removing the Grand Company restrictions.
It is great that they are finally talking about this. Are we really worried about win trading though? While I would love to preserve the sanctity of PvP in a 72 man 3 team set up it is going to be hard to win trade. Cheaters will always cheat. But unless they are adding a true PvP season for frontlines with rewards, I think we can live with some of the consequences.
Step one Grand Companies bite the dust. Step two complain that we can't que 24 at a time. Step three assert global domination of Balmung server.
Just in case folks from SE read this thread, I want to voice my opinion that the GC restrictions are fine. Sure, it means you have to wait longer in between matches, but it makes the battles more meaningful. I've played large-scale pvp battles in other mmos where it's just a random hodge-podge of players assigned to different teams and it isn't nearly as rewarding.
FFXIV has made a commitment (a rare one at that in the midst of most current MMOs [and it seems to be paying off in terms of critical and commercial success]) to story and lore--this makes everything in-game more meaningful. If players don't like that there're plenty of bland mmos out there.
Tweaks that may make the matching system more efficient or changes that would result in a greater abundance of matches? Great! But doing away with lore-based GC restrictions is lame. Then pvp is just for the sake of pvp, and there're zillions of other games out there to scratch that itch.
Now, bring on the flames!![]()
You do know that they added a new map and expansion and the (redacted) didn't realize that they had made a mistake in 2.0. They could have made any new lore no CS just a couple chat bubbles. The community did voice concerns in 2.0 but kept out hope that they would learn from past issues and move forward. Instead they have to be beaten with facts over and over and give some lame excuse about fixes. Fixes happen in triple triad they get a reward, first place for frontlines doesn't even have a reward.
You have 50 matches, you felt the que was worth it? I also typed a bunch of other stuff, but decided it might be best not to say those kind of things to another person I do not even know.
The lore for Frontlines is idiotic to start with or else I might see this point. Instead of creating a story that matched characters and factions, it's a flimsy justification FOR a GC restriction. A restriction that has done nothing positive.Just in case folks from SE read this thread, I want to voice my opinion that the GC restrictions are fine. I hope they don't wait till pvp is totally dead before finally removing it.
It's wonderful news they are considering removing it, however a thread 296 posts in 300+ likes and a rep couldn't just inform us of this earlier?
It's OK pointless minion > being able to play a game you've paid for.

It could also help balance teams as well. As is one GC dominates, everyone decides to migrate over to that dominating GC that GC declines and another GC dominates lol. It's an endless cycle of unbalanced GCs.
I'd just prefer a merc option, myself. I actually quite like the cross-server community in PVP, and a merc option that allows you to fill in for the missing GC IF YOU WANT would alleviate queues while still allowing groups to keep their identity.
Think I'm in the minority here, though.
