I think a lot of people are dancing around the practical aspect to encouraging GC-restrictions. A limited number of players.
PvP has always been of niche interest since it was introduced. The wolves den was pretty much dead on arrival, despite a brief burst of activity when it first landed. Frontlines went the way of the dodo. Ignoring the huge lore issues caused by traitorously siding with another Grand Company, it's a fact that people will tend to gravitate to the group their friends are in. Inevitably this leads to a wider imbalance, and is more than likely to double or even triple your current queue times as the less popular GC's are ignored.
In my opinion, they should have left GC's out of it entirely and made it team based. Red team, yellow team, blue team or whatever. Generic teams that anyone can join regardless of their allegiance, which would allow people to team up and join the same side. It would've been difficult to add a story for, but then no one really pays attention to story in a PvP fight anyway.
Still, loosening the restrictions won't make PvP any more popular. The combat system is simply not designed for those sorts of battles, and most people play for the PvE. Still, baby steps.

It is fine to tie frontline with lore but please give a flexible option for us to play with friends. E.g. premade has an option to temporarily switch to leader's GC.

I've been a proponent to changing this terribly designed restriction since Frontlines came to be.
The rule of fun at its finest!Lore cannot be used as an excuse to impede gameplay. Lore should enhance gameplay. If lore is causing 3+ hour long queue times to play one 10 minute match, then the lore needs to change. Luckily for SE, they write the damn lore and can do whatever they hell they want with it. Unluckily for all of us, they just don't seem to care enough.

To all of you here arguing against the removal of this factually negative restriction, I say this:
"You can now only do duties with other members of your Grand Company."
Queue times would skyrocket. You'd be separated from friends lest your group of friends glob together into one GC. You all know damned well that you'd be crying tears all over this forum if that change were to be made.
And it's the same thing we have to deal with in PvP now.

Yeah....the idea was fun at first but now it's just annoying. I'm definitely for ending the GC restrictions
Adding my vote to this. This is some PvP in an MMO I've enjoyed (Frontlines at least) and to essentially get stuck in a never ending queue and not even partaking is ridiculous. Removing the Grand Company restrictions will do more good than harm.

other chance, they can give us the possibility to keep GC restriction but based on FC Grand Company... at least we play with our friends >.< and at least they give a reason for the GC affiliation of a FC

Signed. I'm R45, but the thought of PVPing a month from now once the community has moved onto something else is truly dreadful.
If it's not adjusted by the next Letter to the Producer question thread, someone really needs to address it and ask for support from the PvP community (with "likes").
