    Additional Effect: Fire Damage?

Besides the fancy look for the new Ifrit weapons, do you think we expect to see dropped weapons with special stats? With the implementation of materia it's suspected that augmented armor and weapons may be the way to go. I'm thinking that there should be some kind of incentive to go after dropped gear. What do you guys think?

A lot of people may go for the primal drops just for ease. It takes a lot longer and is riskier to craft a good weapon and put enough materia on it to make it especially good (since failure would result in loss of the whole thing), so yeah ease of gain, and some people will get it just for the sake of appearance. It won't really need incentive, it'll all depend on preference I think.

I'm under the impression that rare/ex items like the Ifrit loot drops will be something like a weapon or armour with 2 or 3 pieces of materia.

your crafted +1 - 3 (or HQ) items with 2-5 materia will be much more powerful than the rare/ex. Thats just my impression though.

the ifrit weapons should be completely ineffective against Ifrit, so making speed runs for drops later does not become any easier. make there less elements, but make them matter more!
