The other opening jingle for super fates like Dark Devices and Taraqsue is pretty cool though. Really wish I could find it on one of the cds

Why not just do it the FFXI way. Battle music only plays when you actually engage the monster in combat. Wander into a boss FATE but haven't attacked the boss? Music doesn't play.

This might work. It has its downsides, for instance, not knowing that something's attacking you. But still, it will only play when you want to fight, so that's good.

I was looking for this option last week. The great thing about a toggle for battle/FATE music is that those who want that music to play can leave things as they are, and those who get sick of the battle/FATE music from repetition, or who just really, really like the background music, can have an option.

Yup...lol 3 years later and still waiting. It's like FFXI...they'll do it...eventually! When no one cares anymore. To this day I still do not play with the game sound because I can't stand the battle/FATE music. It is actually irritating.

This is far and away my largest complaint. I've was frustrated about this three years ago, I'm still frustrated with it, and I will continue to be until they give us the option to disable battle music.

Since this thread was resurrected, figured I'd just update this to say that I am, indeed, still frustrated with it. I want to hear the lovely, quiet, relaxing zone music. I don't want it interrupted constantly. I still don't keep my in-game music on because of this. I turn it on just long enough to hear what's there, then turn it back off. Please let me turn off the generic battle music in each zone.

Edit: Sometimes, I even go to YouTube and look up the zone themes for the zone/time of day that I'm in just so I can hear the zone music while I quest or do hunts or whatever I'm doing. It's hard to get absorbed in the quiet atmosphere of a night time blizzard in Coerthas Western Highlands when the wind and the soft piano gets overridden by the same driving battle theme over and over and over again. Don't take it away from everyone of course, some people like it. But a toggle, like with the chocobo music, would be fantastic.
