To those complaining about having to do the story...

Have you taken the time to stop and just take the story in? Observe the environment? Do you know how many times I had to just stop and stare at stuff, because it looked so amazing? I started leveling during early access and I am level 55 now. I made it through the MSQ with ease and enjoyed it thoroughly. This is the first story in an MMO that I have followed and taken the time to be engulfed in. Let me put it to you this way. If the story was a cupcake, it would be the most epic cupcake you have ever had...with sprinkles! Slow down and enjoy the game, people.

Thanks for that, welcome to the game, and I agree 100%. The story is what really distinguishes FFXIV from most other MMOGs on the market so it's bizarre to me how much griping around having to endure it goes on.

Honestly if people don't enjoy the story, I have to ask why they're playing a Final Fantasy game in the first place :P

Believe it or not, not everyone has a life that allows them to play every day for hours at a time.

Most of the complaints about the story I've seen are about how long it takes new players to catch up if they just bought ARR, which is fair given how bland the original 2.0 story was until after Levi and how many annoying fetch quests we had to go on.

Otherwise my story complaint is that some levels are dry in story progression.

Level 54 - 14 Story Quests that resolve some loose ends from 2.0 and set up the 55 story nicely
Level 55 - HUGE plot advancement and a new dungeon, but only 3 story quests
Level 56 - 7 story quests that do hardly anything and don't unlock anything and keep you in Ishgard.
Level 57 - 16 story quests including a new dungeon and a new primal battle, with many cutscenes in between and visiting two new areas.

Getting from 55 to 57 was miserable because of how little story questing there was to break up the monotony....

It's not a matter of doing the story, per se. But it's the required menial quests in between the MSQ that's a nightmare. For example, despite beating Ifrit and having the GC leaders all up on us we had to

1. Gather ingredients for Gegejuru's party despite Titan being a threat
2. All those crystals and pots to get to Garuda
3. Making food for the soldiers prior to CM or Prae or westwind?

This is mostly true for 2.XX and 3.0 have vastly improved regarding this issue.
