Why can't we choose other mounts with companion out?

Summoners can mount flying mounts and the Egi gets "stored."

Hell, if you have your chocobo companion out and you get the Midgardsormr mount via the questline, you appear mounted on Midgardsormr after the cutscene despite having your chocobo summoned. When you land, the chocobo appears, similar to how the Egi is stored and reappears when you dismount.

Clearly this is possible, yet I can't understand why we aren't allowed to mount anything we want while the chocobo companion is out.

Because riding anything but a Chocobo in a Final Fantasy game should be a bannable offense to begin with.

It should be allowed. The Chocobo should just follow behind you on your mount. Its not like it can't keep pace. . .

It's a world building thing I think. In the world so to speak you don't have a trail of mounts following you around everywhere you go, your chocobo (or whichever mount you choose) is supposed to be a safe distance away nearby all along. If your choco is out and about in battle with you then clearly you don't have another mount "with" you.

Just the way they designed it in code. The idea was to have your chocobo act as a party member but the consequences of that are these problems. It is at least something they are looking into.

I would be nice, as I really love the personal airship and would prefer to use it, but I'm fine with my chocobo too.
