The reason the Ifrit weapons do not fit the current style is because they come from a completely different source.

The continent of Eorzea generally has a type of style for gear creation. This is because the three city states cooperate and share a good deal of technology. These are the ways we know how to make things. A vast majority of our current gear is made by us so it has the Eorzean feel to it. This hasn't changed.

The Garlean Empire similarly has a particular aesthetic feel, most of their gear being red, black or silver and having a much more military look to it. Also they have a penchant for sticking guns in their weapons, something you would never see in an Eorzean style weapon thus far.

Then we have the Ifrit weapons. These weapons are born of gods, the Primals. As such they have (so far) reflected the look of the Primal they come from. The Ifrit weapons are comprised mostly of horns or rocky hide with a subtle ember glow, you can take one look at them and you know they came from Ifrit. These weapons convey the power of the creature they came from. They are the most unique of weapons because they came from a most unique source. My guess is that this trend will continue with the Primal fights, there will be Primal styled weapons.

    Ha! Finally a valid counterpoint!

They are still a little overexaggerated, the archers bow is a bit much.

But maybe, just maybe, these weapons are magical!
The owner does not chose the, but the weapon chooses the owner!
Thus, while an unworthy Eorzean will not be able to wield such a weapon.
If the weapon chooses a worthy adventurer it will make it's mass magically lighter, more accurate and cause devastating damage!

In all seriousness! Stop putting so much realism into my fantasy!
Ever hear of suspension of your imagination?

all i know is those plastic nerf bludgeons don't hold a candle to to even my bass guitar as a weapon... and that's a musical instrument.

come to think of it i think ive seen these things at the dollar store in my youth.

I think the point is that the art direction is inconsistent with the theme being set by Final Fantasy XIV.

Walking dolls like the moogle held by Lulu? In-theme, associated with Final Fantasy X. It actually suits her role.

The giant f*cking metal sword wielded by Cloud Strife? Style decision by the devs, and it still made sense within the context of a world where Mako is the power source.

Get my drift? Big f*cking honking horns for weapons, when there were no prior examples, sets a VERY bad precedent for future art direction.

Please, study game design, and art direction before you people open your stupid-ass mouths.

P.S. When we look at Ifrit's weapons in the context of FFXIV, it makes no sense because we all know it's unlikely to actually permanently kill a Primal and rip off the horns off his body - doing so would effectively destroy the lore of FFXIV's world. Therefore, the weapons do not have any appropriate context that can be applied.

But. . . Ifrit Bleeds, We Can Kill It!

With slightly less sarcasm: Even if we wind up not killing him, per se, there's nothing saying we can't break off his horns and turn them into crazy weapons while he's off licking his wounds.

Again, I'd like to point out that it's entirely likely that this over-the-top style will only ever be applied to primal weapons, not to the rank and file. Is it really so bad to have a subset that (consistently) breaks the norm?

I am an artist. I have done concept art. Dont try to pull some superior artist tone thing, thats still your subjective opinion. Your idea that the primal cant be defeated, and his parts harvested... well thats exactly what you have to do to get the weapon. Maybe its a false body, or is created out of aether when he enters the plane. Regardless, he will in fact be killed for every person who gets the weapon.

in your opinion, you dont like them. They make sense being primal based weapons from a giany horny flame monster, since amalja are connected to ifrit, it should have an amalja like sensibility.

also the weapons should look more unique when they are not mass produced. If you dont like the weapon dont use it. Dont try to outlaw everyone else from something because YOU dont like how it looks.

I dont understand why people think that everyone in the world should follow their own aethetic. I dont love most the weapons either, but im not saying they shouldnt exist. Its foolish

With as few updates they make with new items and weapons, I ultimately think this was a dissappointment for some, myself included. It's not foolish to want SE to have the best possible relaunch if and when the PS3 version is released. I can tell you that most people that play this game, do not have the same aesthetic tastes as those who play WOW and the like, for obvious reasons.

Again, it just looks like a 3D modeler put these weapons together last minute. Um, excuse me, they reworked the dev team for a reason. Let's not forget that, please. We are trying to fix this game, (and yes we have an influence on the development believe it or not) not make it less than what it could be, especially to those who still play and will continue to play whether they implement this absurd design or not. This is just a tool to say "Hey, SE, we really don't like this, please change it if you can!" And you said yourself that you're displeased with certain weapons but you don't say anything, so don't disallow or judge people that DO vocalize their opinions. Hardcore fans know what the name Final Fantasy entails.
