Find me another set of Primal drops to compare these weapons to and I'll tell you whether or not they're consistent across all Primal drops. Deal?

Didn't we just get done asking SE to give the different city-states some individuality/trends with regards to gear? This could very easily be seen as an extension of that.

It's a single set of weapons born from the Lord of the Inferno, I would expect no less from them. I foresee this trend continuing with the Primal fights but not outside of it. I mean look, Eorzean Adventurers have their own gear style, the Garlean Empire has its own gear style and now the Primals have their own dropped gear style. Just because a set of weapons dropped from the Lord of the Inferno bear resemblance to him and glow a little bit doesn't mean that every single weapon from now on will be like that.

I'm going to guess that all Primal fights will have over the top designs for their weapons. All weapons created by the adventurers have so far and likely will stick to a certain design style and the same goes for anything from the Garlean Empire. The game can have multiple design styles honestly based on different regions, cultures or enemy types.

Of course, nothing good or appealing can come out of the design direction they had going up until now, which is the same direction shared by their previous multiplayer online game, which also had nothing but boring, drab and horribly colored gear and nothing else. Fantastic deduction skills all around.

There is simply no way for any cloth or piece of metal to be visually appealing if its not twice the size of its real life counterpart and doesn't have million objects sticking out of it.

You're being a bit over dramatic.

Monster Hunter's weapons stay true to the game's overall art direction, and they aren't really that overdesigned, just big.

There's really not much reason to hate them outside of preferences.

I didn't know there was a spin-off called "Primals: The Game". These weapons are all a part of FFXIV's overall art direction and unfortunately they do not fit there for reasons some of you seem to be unable to grasp.

Wow, that's a rather extreme exaggeration of what I was talking about. Which city would you link Primal gear to, thematically? If we're asking for each city to have its own mini theme for gear, why shouldn't Primals have their own? Would it really be so bad if Primal drops and only Primal drops were a little over-the-top?

Also, I fully grasp what you're saying. I just don't agree with it.

Consistent art direction is not city-specific. Having different themes doesn't have to mean the art direction will become inconsistent. In this case it does, but it doesn't have to.

There can be a wide range of themes and designs as long as they fit to the overall art direction of the game. In this game it basically comes down to avoiding over-exaggeration and keeping proportions somewhat realistic. It's, imo, a huuuuge stretch to twist that into meaning every equip are and will be bland and boring, like some of you tend to do.

Mind you, the problem persists with only few weapons in this case but it is unfortunate nonetheless.

True. I'll try to cut down on that a bit.

I guess I'm just looking at it as an extension of themes. Limsa's theme is X; Grid's theme is Y; the Primal theme happens to be "going slightly over-the-top." I mean, these weapons are a small subset of what's being added this patch, and we have every reason to believe that they're outliers as far as looks go. Yes, if all the new raptor leather/peiste leather/cobalt/steel/woolen/felt gear were also over-the-top, I'd start wondering what was up. If it continues to be only Primal gear that does this, though, I don't see an issue.

Now, that's not to say I'm totally happy with how the items look. I still think the PGL weapons are a little disproportionate, and I have mixed feelings about the ARC weapon. Overall, though, I don't mind the theme. . .
