Ah that would answer why X-2 sounds so different from other FFs in terms of music.
Still, I've been listening to Lightwaves for a few hours now and I'm feeling quite mellow...
I wish I could like this thread 100 times. Nobuo Uematsu is a musical genious and I could gladly lick his feet even if he had stepped on radioactive worm-infested mud. FFXIV sountrack rocks. Thank you.
Three cheers for Nobuo Uematsu
ps: a track i rather like from FFIX: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Sx_Qqzs4cfk (you're not alone)

I love you Nobuo Uematsu ~<3 :3
Here's one my friend brought to my attention not long ago that I'd totally forgotten about
Black Mage Village. Such a fun and perky tune ^.^
And let's not forget the Triple Triad theme, Quad Mist![]()

That would be Tetra Master, not Triple Triad ^^;;

<3 Didn't see Dancing Mad posted.
(This does not look pixed out on my Mitsubishi WD-82740 btw)

+1 for this thread!
I LOVE Uematsu's work; he was half the reason I played FF games back in the day (when he still composed music for them, and not just one or two tracks mind you), whether I realized it at the time or not. His music definitely defined a lot of the most impactful moments in the series.
However, with that said. . . what... is up... with FFXIV's soundtrack?! It's... horrible! Well, not horrible, because there are some good tracks in it, but sometimes when I'm playing this game the repetition of the music makes me wanna rip my hair out, and a lot of the time it doesn't even fit with the environment or situation I'm in. Battle/leve/behest music = horrible. Thanalan music = horrible. Uldah original music = horrible (keep company music plzzzzzzzz!). This game's soundtrack is seriously lacking in terms of epic. We need some good old fashioned epic, fantasy style Nobuo Uematsu music here, not some stupid pop electric guitar crap. I really think that Yoshi P should ask Uematsu to compose some new tracks for the game. Most of the music just seriously lacks any sort of atmospheric value. Can I please hear something that actually reflects fantasy, adventure, danger, mysticism and/or the environment that I'm in?

I'm thinking it may come from him being used to making music for single-player RPG games. In those you only need to make a tune for a particular scene and it may not be used again, so you can give it the necessary feel for what's happening. In an MMO the world will always be evoling with more stuff being added to it and extra music to go with it may not be a possibility at the time, so it's best to make music that can fit a variety of situations rather than having 1 track focusing on 1 thing. Because of that the music sounds more 'generalised' so it can be re-usable.
