I've been playing this since 2.0 relaunch and pretty much just ignored the zodiac weapons quest's until like a few months before 3.0 came out.

I got up to the part of working on the ilvl 110 upgrade. The 47 meteria's attaching to this scroll.

Someone in my FC said I shouldn't even bother with it, because aperently the new city has a merchant that sells ilvl 115 gear for like 25k, which is very cheap.

I feel bad I finally started to work on relic, but now feel like a waisted my time and don't really wont to bother with it now.

With how ez it is to get ilvl 115 gear, I just can't imagine, new players or people like me who never worked on relic would even bother with it now. Just don't see the point of it. When you think about it getting from lvl 1-50 and completing the MSQ and gaining access to Ishguard and walk up to that npc and purchase that weapon would be a lot less time consuming and effort to get compaired to grinding that whole relic quest line.

I say Finish it, it wants to be complete. Also i didn't dump my whm Zeta until level 58 where it got replaced by white item. Even then i'm still keeping it around for glamour purposes.

Unless you melded some before, its 75 melds total. But yea, honestly it's not worth doing it unless you really want it for Glamours. The slight advantage would be big so you don't have to worry that much about it. I only finished mines because I was on the last leg for it and plus I wanted my Z title.

I don't have a source on this, but I think SE has said it in previous interviews.. While the 2.0 Relics will not carry over to 3.0. When the new Relics do come out, if you have a previous one it will help you "skip" steps when getting a new one (no idea if this pertains to DRK/AST/MCH) but it should to the Jobs that exist in 2.0. So that might be enough incentive to finish your one from 2.0 to Zeta.

I say finish it! I have my PLD zodiac weapon and am working on smn zodiac weapon, I'm at the novus part now and its not that bad just work on it here and there. There's no real rush on completion because who knows when 3.0 relics will start, but I for one am excited about it!!

I would also say to finish it. They have nerfed the quest line a lot, and currently materia prices (at least on my server) are so low that 47 materias shouldn't even be that much gil. The steps after that--light grinding and the dungeon drops--have also been nerfed significantly so they are much easier to finish.

Ultimately, I think the relic weapon quest line is kind of a rite of passage. Finishing it is a really good feeling; I guess for me, the journey and struggle to achieve it was more meaningful than the weapon itself. And a lot of the Heavensward weapons are just okay-ish. A 115 vendor weapon is definitely not going to be as awesome looking as a relic weapon nor as good as a relic weapon with customized stats.

Yeah, they are not necessary at the moment anymore because there are better weapons in Heavensward for sure, but I still think the quest line is worth doing. Also, like someone mentioned above, when the new relic quest line comes out, there will be benefits to having the old quest line completed, so it could give you a nice boost in the future. Worth thinking about!

To be honest the stats on the zeta in 3.0 content get pretty much obsolete by level 55-56ish but you can finish everything in the main story for the expansion with the zeta weapon without issue. I had my zeta until I replaced it with an upgrade law tomes weapon.

It was sad seeing a weapon that had that much time out into it just get tossed aside right away but that's the way the games fear progression is designed.

In terms of whether you should finish it or not, that's up to you and depending on where you are in the building process for the weapon it has gotten a lot easier to do with cheap materia prices increased alexandrite quantities, increased drop rates and the ability to Zerg most of the dungeons as an undersized party without the need to wait for duty finder, it's probably going to be a lot quicker to finish it than it was in 2.xx

You guys misread what was said, lol
It was said "those with Zeta will be taken into consideration", no mention of skipping steps, etc.
But i kind of agree i would say at this point in time i would not do Relic, maybe simply because having done multiples i am sick of it, not sure
When hw came out there was already better weapons from dungeon drops then Zeta, so currently it is a glam piece
On the bright side it is super nerfed now and should be much easier to get
