    Questions for Experienced Players

Thanks for reading my post! I have a couple questions, as I am new to FFXIV and am trying to decide if I will continue to subscribe. Any input would be helpful! Thanks

1 - Is the dislike of new players something that has been around for a while, or is it a new phenomenon?
2 - Was FFXIV always endgame heavy? (Examples: "it's better at 60" or "they made it like at at 60" or "your opinion is invalid until you get to 60")
3 - Are people generally rude in Duty Finder, or is this just the case because of the expansion and everyone rushing to endgame?

    1. This varies from person to person. The general consensus is people want to finish things ASAP, so they don't 'like' dealing with the new player in the group.
    2. I want to say yes personally. I never really felt the stuff between 1-50(51-60) was super awesome. But after hitting 50/60, you get to do all the super duper cool stuff!
    3. Somewhat related to the first question. You'll get nice people too, but essentially it's because of answer 1.

    Hello and all that!

1.) Dislike of new players is not something unique to FFXIV, or gaming in general...that said! Some people need to remember that we are not just bits of data in the system, but each person is a real person behind the computer/console (usually.) Some things get hit harder by the "hate" more (Castrum/Prae cutscenes probably being the worst.)

2.) While I can't say I've played a LOT of MMOs, many of them tend to have a good chunk to a lot of their content at endgame, as outside of when your game first comes out most of your playerbase will be playing at level cap, and thus the end game. In my opinion this MMO is actually better about not JUST being about the endgame...but endgame is still a big thing. I do agree with Lorielle that on the whole, 50-60 is MUCH more engaging leveling wise then 1-50.

3.) See the answer to 1 on this and apply it to everyone instead of just new people. You'll have jerks, you'll have quiet people, speedrunners, slow bros, sometimes bots...and you'll also have people who are talkative, there for fun, good-natured and the like. Really the biggest thing that sucks about the DF is that most of the good people aren't on your server it seems (not you but "you" in general~)

1 - Is the dislike of new players something that has been around for a while, or is it a new phenomenon?

This is personal opinion based. I however run an FC that is dedicated to teaching new players how to enjoy the game rather than being thrown to the wolves to learn.

2 - Was FFXIV always endgame heavy? (Examples: "it's better at 60" or "they made it like at at 60" or "your opinion is invalid until you get to 60")

The game is better at 50.

3 - Are people generally rude in Duty Finder?

    Yes. Just yes.

    1. There are always impatient people that dislike getting new players. Most people don't mind, though (until you get to the end game content and the inner beast takes the wheel).

    2. Yes, the game was designed to coast you through the levels until you got to the max level content.

    3. I find most people to be generally pleasant. You get the occasional asshat, but as long as you're friendly, most people are friendly in return.

1- I never felt the dislike of new players in general, there are times though where people want to do things fast or wrong attidutes from a part or the other heating the atmosphere. Like new players expecting to get everything explained where there everything already online or speedrunners being unfair to new players interested in the cutscenes to putbout some example.

2- kind of yeah, 1-50 was like a giant tutorial, the real game started after 50. Then from around HW it gets even way better. That said the levelling part is the story part as well so better enjoying it if it's your cup of tea.

3- there are every kind of people, most people just say Hi or nothing at start of DF and bye or gg or even thanks at the end but you can find funny talkative people or rude ignorant as well.

Honestly speaking though even if you can be unlucky enough to find really nasty people I can say that this is the online game with the less bed experiences I've tried ever.

If you say you are new at the start of a dungeon and receptive to advice, then generally most people are fine. If you don't say you are new and ignore any advice, then yus your reception may be less than favourable. At the start there was a lot more content prior to max level, lots was added over time. So initially levelling was the main focus, pretty much the same with Heavensward at the moment. Albeit you do get a subset of players who see the levelling and story as nothing more than an inconvenience to get to grinding for shinies at max level. Approach as you see fit, not as others see it. Remember, this is a Final Fantasy game, it is very story-centric on your journey.

Theres rude people in all aspects of life, whether real or virtual.

    1. I usually don't see any dislike of new players outside of Party Finder. Party Finder is just elitist crap 90% of the time. "NO BONUS", "KNOW FIGHT OR KICK", etc...

    2. Well yeah, 1-49 is basically just a tutorial, as said by Yoshi-P himself. And 51-59 is mostly about the story. If one is mainly an MMO player, one usually doesn't really care about the story. But if you do care about the story, IMO the game is just as enjoyable outside end-game as it is end-game.

    3. I have almost never met people that would be assholes in DF tbh. Sure, when for example the tank REALLY doesn't know how to tank, in Aurum Vale, doesn't ask for tips, and wipes the group on the first boss 3 times, smirky jokes are made "What is the tank doing?" "We have a tank? O.o", just before you vote abandon, but that's about it. I have met like half a dozen of actual toxic players in DF at most, while having run hundreds of DF runs.

1 - Is the dislike of new players something that has been around for a while, or is it a new phenomenon?
    * I very, very rarely see dislike of new players on my server or on Duty Finder. If there is any dislike, that's usually for a different reason. Players going in completely blind and not listening to what other people tell them, that's what usually gets people; some new players who are touchy about being "new" and think anyone trying to tell them what to do is an elitist.

2 - Was FFXIV always endgame heavy?
    * I don't feel that it is endgame "heavy". It's just that when you reach endgame, it's a whole new ballgame for you. However, there are many things to do at various levels and I personally know people who level up crafters and gatherers first, or stay at a certain level just to chill out at the Gold Saucer.

3 - Are people generally rude in Duty Finder, or is this just the case because of the expansion and everyone rushing to endgame?
    * People can be rude for any reason. New or old, Japanese or non-Japanese, elitist or so-called "non-elitists", expansion or no expansion. I'm happy to say that 90% of my duty finder runs go smoothly. However, the duty finder is completely random so there's no telling what kind of person you'll be partied with in the next run.
