Need help on college report, looking for Heavensware architect inspiration

A different topic, but I got a college report for a humanities class, and the teacher is eccentric and wants it to be in the first person and have me "describe a Gothic Cathedral like like you're actually seeing it in person", with my own choice which building I do it on. Usual three or more reliable sources and MLA writing standards, so nothing out of the usual.

There are quite a few options for French structures, and I know Ishgard is supposed to pull heavily from French designs, so why not learn more about the game itself and apply it to this short paper?

Here is a list of places my professor gave, though she said we can do others as long as they're Gothic in design.

France: Amiens Cathedral,, Autun Cathedral, Bourges Cathedral, Chartres Cathedral Notre Dame, Saint-Serin of Toulouse, Saint-Trophime of Arles,Sainte-Chappel, Strasbourg Cathedral, Vezelay Abby

Any and all help is appreciated.

Not sure how seriously your college takes it, but my old college teachers would grade me with F right after just reading the title of my work, if I decided to write about game related stuff.

On topic: Ishgard is Gothic-ish but in my opinion it is kinda a mix of all styles and definitely misses some Gothic features. If I were you, I would chose some real building and then maybe make some review of Isghard buildings as a fanart for blog or FFXIV forums.

Then.. if you are stubborn, run Vault a few times. It has some Gothic atmosphere.

Oh, I think you might have misunderstood me. I have to write about a real building, but I was kinda curious if there were any notable French Gothic Cathedrals that influenced Heavensward designs, since I figure it would be fun to get lost into researching a building and the surrounding landscape that influenced the game.

Like if a specific building was the main inspiration for something like the Vault, I wouldn't mind researching that this weekend for the report, then maybe do a few runs of it to go "hey, SE really did a great job capturing the flying buttress pretty well!" or compare rib vaults in the ceiling from the real location to the Vault. That seems a bit more exciting to me as opposed to just randomly picking a European cathedral off a list and then having to fulfill the teacher's requirement of writing about the details of the building as if I'm experiencing it in person, you know?

You could always took a look at the castle that SE rented for the press meetings and Live Letter that took place in France? Not sure if it fits your criteria, but worth a shot.

Chateau de Challain-La Potherie, a neogothic style castle built in the 19th century. Rather appropriate for a Heavensward event, wouldn't you say? It's almost like a real-life Ishgard!

Yes, I definitely misunderstood you and I am sorry. But I still believe the Vault kinda fits into this.. just like a little addition.
By the way if I am understanding you right and it does not have to be French building but any Gothic-style building and if you want something no one will probably chose, I would suggest you St. Vitus Cathedral in Prague. It is definitely the most Gothic building in the Czech Republic and I believe there will be no problems finding a few articles about it.

I wouldn't rely on anything in the game as being a reference to Gothic styling. There's so many architectural, cultural and socioeconomic faux-pas in how the 'Gothic' look has been interpreted that it's very much like Disney's interpretation of Schloß Neuschwanstein - it has an aesthetic but is far from true to the style.

Stick with the real deal and examine the works of the masters of Gothic - the French.
